Black Friday and Cyber Monday are no longer just US-based events – thanks to the internet these are now global promotions and, if you play things carefully (there’s a lot of garbage out there) you can find yourself some very good deals.

Because I travel as much as I do I’m a big believer in not skimping on the luggage that I buy (although I’ve yet to by a piece of luggage that wasn’t on sale) so I tend to use brands like TUMI, Briggs & Riley and, to a lesser extent, Rimowa.

Luggage seems to be a very personal choice and while I’m sure everyone has their own experiences I’ve not had too much trouble with the brands I’ve just named – it hasn’t always been plain sailing but I can definitely say that I’ve had a lot fewer issues since I started paying more for what I put in the hold.

TUMI can be a vastly overpriced brand and I’m often left wondering who pays over a $1,000 for a suitcase (if anyone knows let me know as I have some swamp land they’d probably buy off me!) but in a sale you can pick up some real bargains.

Right now Amazon UK has a serious sale on a few of the Tumi Tegra-Lite range and, if you’re looking for a very light yet durable suitcase, you could do a lot worse than these.

One of the better discounts is on the slim 34 litre carry-on which is currently selling at 45% of retail price:

Always make sure you check the dimensions of any carry-on you buy to make sure it will conform to the latest airline rules (which can vary from airline to airline).

This carry-on measures 55.2cm x 55.2cm x 40 cm and weighs just 4.1kg.

The best deal is probably the one currently being offered on the “Medium Trip” 71L case which is currently discounted by an incredible 60%….

For those looking for the biggest bag on offer the “Extended Trip” 109 litre case is currently discounted by a little over 40% an is easily the biggest suitcase you’ll ever need…or ever get away with checking on a plane!

There are a couple of non Tegra-lite items also with great discounts:

This is probably my favorite of all the choices, partly because I have enough suitcases and partly because the Alpa/Alpha 2 TUMI range is the one I like best…..and a 44% saving always helps!

If TUMI isn’t your thing then Briggs and Riley may be a better fit….and there are discounts to be had here too:

Last but not least, there are discounts of up to 50% on Antler luggage too. I have absolutely no experience with this brand but I know of people who won’t buy anything else because the balance between price and quality works very well for them.

Bottom Line

Make sure you have a good look around the Amazon Black Friday Sale if you’re looking for luggage (or anything else for that matter) as this is definitely on of those times of year where there are great deals to be had.

Some pieces of advice to leave you with:

  • Always check the dimensions of whatever luggage you’re buying and make sure it will comply with whatever airline you fly.
  • Always check that the dimensions include the wheels
  • Make sure you take into account the weight of a bag before you buy it – in today’s world of baggage fees you really don’t want to be using up your weight allowance on your suitcase.
  • Think long-term. If you travel a lot your bags are going to be subject to a lot of abuse from baggage handlers – buying a cheap bag now may seem like a good idea but it won’t seem so clever if splits open on the first trip and you have to replace it almost immediately (I watched that happen to a friend).

If anyone sees any other great Black Friday deals please post in the comments below – thanks!
