Qatar will be hosting the 2022 Football World Cup and Qatar Airways is a major sponsor of football (soccer) around the world as well as being the official airline of UEFA EURO 2020, so it’s not all that surprising to see the airline running a promotion in honor of the championships that come to a close this week.

The airline says that the promotion is “exclusive for UEFA EURO 2020™ fans” but as long as you’re originating in an eligible city and traveling on an eligible route you need have no interest whatsoever in the “beautiful game”.

Key Terms

  • The discount is on offer for bookings made through 23 July 2021
  • The discount is valid for travel through 10 December 2021
  • Use promo code UEFA when booking to receive a discount of up to 15% on eligible flights
  • The promo code is valid on flight bookings originating from select countries to all Qatar Airways operated destinations considering destination exclusions.
  • Eligible Flight Origin Countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Greece, Cyprus, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, Turkey.
  • Exclusion Destinations: Australia, India, Pakistan, Philippines, China, United States
  • If the promo code is entered correctly at the time of flight search, the special fare will be marked with a burgundy coupon in the flight selection page along with the wording “Promo code has been successfully applied”.
  • The promo code is applicable on select booking classes:
    • Economy cabin (Classic on booking codes: O, T, Q, N, and Convenience on booking codes: S, V, L, M, K)
    • Business Cabin (Classic on booking code: R and Convenience on booking codes: I, D)
  • The promo code discount of 15% is deducted from the ‘fare per passenger’ amount visible in the price breakdown summary after flight selection. Any other taxes, service fees or standard market charges will be payable and displayed at the time of booking.
  • The promo code cannot be combined with any other offer or promotion.

Full terms and conditions can be found on the promotion page.

Quick Thoughts

The downside to this promotion is that it’s only applicable to departures from countries participating in EURO 2020 (so that excludes the United States) but the upsides include the fact that departures from some of the traditionally “cheap” origination points are valid (e.g. Stockholm and Helsinki) and the fact that Qatar Airways has not excluded its cheaper Business Class fare codes from this promotion.

This means that with Qatar Airways already offering good deals to locations like Singapore and Bangkok in late 2021, there are some very nice Business Class fares to be had (courtesy of this promotion) as long as you pick your departure points carefully:

Note: SEK 13,228 = ~$1,535 or €1,299

Obviously, anyone considering booking one of these very good fares will have to make sure that whatever destination they choose will grant them entry without the need for quarantine or self-isolation (the deals are pretty pointless if you lose half of your trip to self-isolation), but with travel rapidly opening up to the fully vaccinated, this shouldn’t be as big an issue as it was just a couple of months ago.

Bottom Line

Qatar Airways is offering discounts of up to 15% on Economy Class and Business Class flights departing from countries that have been participating in the current UEFA EURO 2020 championships. Sadly, the United States is excluded from the list of eligible counties of origin and finds itself on the list of ineligible destinations, but there are still some very good deals to be had on a lot of other Qatar Airways routes.
