A little earlier, I wrote about a number of short-term offers that Chase has published for stays at select Marriott brands and the good news is that it doesn’t look as if that’s where Chase’s generosity ends – a new offer for spending with United Airlines has also appeared.
The offer
Earn 5% back on your United Airlines ticket purchase when you spend $50 or more, with a $36.00 back maximum.
Offer expires 7/21/2022. Offer valid one time only. Payment must be made directly with the merchant. Rewards can not be combined. Customer is only eligible for 5% reward. Offer not valid on third-party services. Payment must be made on or before offer expiration date.
Quick thoughts
Ok, yes, $36 isn’t exactly an impressive amount to save (especially when you have to spend $720 to get the full rebate) so I’m not going to try to claim that this is a fantastic offer to have been targeted for. What I am going to claim is that if you were planning on booking a fare with United Airlines anyway, this is a nice added bonus to have been offered.
Personally, I’m only seeing this offer targeted to my Chase Sapphire Preferred® credit card (I would have preferred to have had it targeted to my Ink Business Preferred® credit card) but there’s a chance that this offer is also being targeted to one or more of Chase’s United Airlines co-branded cards and that would make it more interesting.
My Chase Sapphire Preferred® credit card will only earn me 2 points/dollar for any spending that I make with United Airlines and while that’s still a better return than someone will get if they use this offer with their United℠ Explorer Card or their United Gateway℠ credit card (both offer 2x on United Airlines spending), anyone using this offer in conjunction with the United Quest℠ Card (3x on United Airlines spending) or the United Club℠ Infinite Card (4x on United Airlines spending) will do noticeably better.
Bottom line
If you have plans to book a flight with United Airlines in the next three weeks now would be a good time to check your Chase offers – you may find that you have been targeted for a small but useful offer that will allow you to save 5% on your booking (up to a maximum rebate of $36).
