Radisson Rewards has launched a new points sale with the best bonus that we’re used to seeing the loyalty program offer. Through 1 December (Wednesday next week), members can purchase points and get a 100% bonus added on so with a purchase of just 3,000 points triggering the full bonus, this could be a very good time to top up a Radisson Rewards account.

The Sale

They don’t get much simpler than this: Buy 3,000 points or more and get a 100% bonus – this matches we saw the flash sale we saw in October.

Key Terms

  • This offer applies to points purchased by 1 December 2021
  • Radisson Rewards Americas members will receive a point bonus equal to up to 100% for purchases from 3,000 to 80,000 points.
  • Minimum required points purchased is 3,000 points.
  • Maximum bonus points awarded is 80,000 points.
  • Bonus points will not be applied to the yearly 80,000-point purchase maximum.
  • Bonus points and purchased points will be posted to the member’s Radisson Rewards Americas account as one transaction within 24 hours of purchase.
  • This offer does not apply to points purchased as a gift.

Full terms are available on the sale page.

The Math

A very nice thing about Radisson Rewards points sales like this one is that it doesn’t matter how many points you buy (as long as you buy at least 3,000) as you’ll always be buying points at the best rate the promotion offers. Whether you buy just 3,000 points…

…or if you buy the full 80,000 points that this sale permits…

…you’ll always be buying points at 0.35 cents each.

Quick Thoughts:

  • With a 100% bonus on offer, this is the best deal that we generally see Radisson Rewards offering but unlike some of the other sales that we’ve seen Radisson publish, there is no increased buying cap this time around – the maximum number of points you can buy is 160,000 points.
  • Radisson’s booking policy is no longer as flexible as it was during the height of the pandemic (a lot of the cheaper rates offer very little flexibility) so with award bookings offering free cancellations, using points from a sale such as this one rather than paying with cash may make a lot of sense if your plans are uncertain.
  • A top-tier Radisson property costs 75,000 points/night and buying enough points in this sale to book one of these top-tier properties will cost $262.50. When considering how much some of Radisson’s top-tier properties cost (especially in Europe) this can be an excellent deal.

Here’s the Radisson Blue Aqua Hotel Chicago (arguably the best Radisson property in the United States) displaying the cost of an award night for a random night next May:

Buying enough points in this sale to book this hotel would cost $262.50.

Here’s the cash price for the same hotel for the same night:

Buying points in this sale and then using those points to book this particular night would save a Radisson Rewards member over $136. That may not be a life-changing sum of money but when you consider that this is just the saving for one night (this can quickly add up) and that the saving actually represents 34% of the cash rate, this isn’t a deal that should be ignored.

As things stand, the UK continues to be one of the better places to visit in Europe if you’re a vaccinated traveler (no lockdowns, limited restrictions, and no rioting) so here’s an example of a saving that can be made in London.

This is Radisson’s top property in London costing 75,000 points for a night in December…

…and here’s the cash cost for the same night:

Keeping in mind that buying 75,000 points in this sale costs $262.50, purchasing points in this sale to book this night would save a Radisson Rewards member over $134.

Will this work every time? No. There will be times where the cash rate at a property you’re looking to book will be sufficiently low to make buying points with the view to making a booking uneconomical. That’s why it’s important to do the math.

No one should be buying Radisson rewards points speculatively (my golden rule applies as always) and no one should be buying points without checking that the rate at which they’re buying points will save them money when it comes to making a booking.

Having said that, this is a genuinely very good sale and it’s offering the best bonus that we’re likely to see from Radisson this year.

Don’t Forget

Radisson Rewards points sales are processed by Points.com so you’re not going to get a credit card travel/hotel category bonus from any points purchased in this sale.

What this means is that this is a good opportunity to use a credit card on which you’re working towards a welcome bonus. This would be a very easy way to lock in the points offer on the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Credit Card (review)…

…or to use the excellent Chase Freedom Unlimited® Credit Card (review) which will earn you 1.5% cash back (or 1.5 points/dollar)

Bottom Line

Radisson Rewards is currently selling points with a 100% bonus which values the currency at just 0.35 cents/point. This is the best bonus that Radisson Rewards usually offers and the lowest cost at which we usually see Radisson Rewards points sold. With a little bit of diligence and research, this is a sale that can be used to save travelers a considerable amount of money.
