Since the end of August, Hyatt has been running a pretty good promotion for American Airlines flyers in which it’s offering automatic (limited-time) elite status in the World of Hyatt program and a chance for flyers then to boost that status through stays. The promotion still has over 3 months to run, but registration closes in just 2 days’ time.
The promotion
The promotion is open to American Airlines Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum elites.
- Register by 30 November
- AAdvantage and Hyatt accounts must be linked
- All eligible participants are given automatic World of Hyatt Explorist status for 90 days from the day of registration.
- All AAdvantage elites can maintain Hyatt Explorist status through February 2024 when they credit 10 eligible nights to the World of Hyatt program within 90 days of registration.
- Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum elites can earn top-tier Hyatt Globlaist status through February 2024 when they credit 20 eligible nights to the World of Hyatt program within 90 days of registration.
Quick thoughts
Hyatt Explorist status isn’t hugely exciting, but it’s a status that’s worth having thanks to benefits like 2 pm late checkouts, a 20% bonus on all base points earned, and a shot at upgrades at check-in, so the fact that this promotion gives that status away for 90 days, should automatically make it appealing to any AAdvantage elites who don’t already hold Hyatt status.
Whether it’s worth crediting the World of Hyatt program with 10 nights in 90 days to keep hold of Explorist status through February 2024, will depend on an individual’s travel patterns.
Hyatt Globalist status (which is on offer to Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum elites) is a status that I hold and love, but while it’s a great status to have, it isn’t the powerhouse elite status that it once was if you don’t earn it the traditional way.
Hyatt has separated out a lot of the key Globalist status benefits into its Milestone Rewards program and so key benefits (like guaranteed suite upgrades) are no longer linked to Globalist status.
They’re linked to the number of elite nights that a traveler credits to the World of Hyatt program so an AAdvantage elite member who earns elite status through this latest match/challenge, would still have to credit the same number of nights to the World of Hyatt program as a regular World of Hyatt member in order to enjoy those benefits.
To put all of that in simple terms: This promotion does not offer a quick path to lounge passes or suite upgrades and that’s why only those who can really make the most of Globalist status going forward should be considering throwing 20 nights Hyatt’s way to lock that elite status in.
Bottom line
Registration for Hyatt’s current elite status match/challenge for American Airlines elites closes on 30 November so if you’re eligible to take part and haven’t registered already, you’re running out of time to do so.
My accounts are linked year or more ago. Logging into Hyatt says I am eligible for a status match and enroll by 12/28 and gives a link to AA promotions page. But I do not have this status match promotion.
I called AA, the agent even got a supervisor and they say only option they have is for me to pay $150 of 15K AA miles to enroll this challenge.
Is there a generic link or any other suggestions?
