Qatar Airways has announced that it is restarting operations to seven of the destinations that it served before the coronavirus intervened and turned the travel world upside down, and the airline has confirmed that it will be boosting services on two of it key US routes from as early as this weekend.

Qatar Airways Route Reboots

  • Algiers (2x/week from 13 November)
  • Kiev (3x/week from 18 December)
  • Miami (2x/week from 14 November)
  • Phuket (2x/week from 4 December)
  • Seychelles (3x/week from 15 December)
  • Tbilisi (1x/week from 5 November)
  • Warsaw (3x/week from 16 December)

Qatar Airways will also be launching a new route between Doha and Luanda (Angola) from 14 December 2020.

Qatar Airways US Route News

Miami

As you may have seen in the list above, Qatar Airways is resuming services to Miami from 14 November (this Saturday) and, initially at least, the route will be operated just twice per week. As things stand, this is what the flight timings look like:

QR777 DOH 08:30 – 16:35 MIA (Wed & Sat)
QR778 MIA 18:35 – 16:25+1 day DOH (Wed & Sat)

The route is set to be operated by a Qatar Airways 777-300ER and, a little surprisingly, the flights in November all appeared to be operated by an aircraft that hasn’t yet been configured with the Qsuites Business Class cabin.

This is the seat map that ExpertFlyer is currently showing for all November flights between Doha and Miami:

Before the pandemic struck, Qatar Airways operated all of its US routes using Qsuite equipped aircraft so it’s strange to see this aircraft scheduled on the Miami route (a Qsuirt equipped 777 appears on this route from 2 December).

Chicago

Chicago has been one of the few US cities to have received service from Qatar Airways for most of this year (despite the pandemic). A minimum of 7 weekly flights have been operating between Doha and Chicago since June (which is incredible considering what the world looked like in June) and now, from 15 November, Qatar Airways is adding two further weekly flights.

Here’s the new schedule:

QR723 DOH 02:00 – 07:50 ORD (Fri & Sun 777-300 service)*
QR725 DOH 08:00 – 13:50 ORD (Daily A350-1000 service)

QR724 ORD 01:30 – 23:35 DOH (Mon & Sat 777-300 service)*
QR726 ORD 1910 – 17:15+1 day DOH (Daily A350-1000 service)

*New additions

All flights between Doha and Chicago (including the new flights) are operated by aircraft offering the Qsuite Business Class cabin.

New York (JFK)

Qatar Airways restarted services between Doha and New York JFK on 19 June and it has been offering 10 flights per week on this route since the beginning of July. A further 4 flights/week were due to be added to this route from 1 September but these never materialized so it won’t be until this Saturday (14 November) that the Doha – JFK route goes back to having the double daily service that was in place before the pandemic.

Here’s what the schedule will look like according to ExpertFlyer:

QR703 DOH 01:30 – 07:40 JFK (Mon, Wed & Sun)
QR701 DOH 08:15 – 14:25 JFK (Daily)
QR705 DOH 15:30 – 21:40 JFK (Tue, Thu, Fri & Sat)

QR704 JFK 01:00 – 21:15 DOH (Daily)
QR702 JFK 21:00 – 15:15+1 day DOH (Daily)

Flights between Doha and New York JFK are operated by a mixture of A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft but all offer the Qsuite Business Class cabin.

San Francisco

At the end of the first week in October, Qatar Airways confirmed that it would be starting service between Doha and San Francisco (for the first time) on 15 December and, according to the airline, the route is still expected to start on schedule.

QR737 DOH 08:15 – 12:55 SFO (Tue, Thu, Sat & Sun)
QR738 SFO 14:55 – 17:15+1 day DOH (Tue, Thu, Sat & Sun)

The route is set to be operated by an Airbus A350-900 which will be equipped with the Qsuite Business Class cabin.

Bottom Line

Qatar Airways is returning to Miami with a twice-weekly service from 14 November and, on the same day, New York will go back to having a double-daily service between JFK and Doha. From 15 November Qatar Airways will offer 9 weekly flights between Doha and Chicago and, as things stand, San Francisco is still set to get Qatar Airways service from 15 December.
