I’m not sure how I missed this when it was first launched but if you’re a collector of points with any one of Qatar Airways’ banking partners, you should know that the airline will currently give you a 20% bonus if you convert those points to Privilege Club Qmiles. For US credit card holders this means a 20% bonus on transfers from Citi’s ThankYou program but elsewhere in the world, transfers from Amex, HSBC, and a wide variety of other banks will also all trigger this bonus.

The Key Terms

  • This offer is valid up until and including 2nd November.
  • Your bonus Qmiles will be equivalent to 20% of the number of Qmiles, which your reward points were converted into.
  • You will be eligible to benefit from this offer if you earn reward points with a bank that allows you to convert your reward points into Qmiles, and have followed the steps to convert those reward points into Qmiles.
  • To view a complete list of banks with which you can convert your reward points into Qmiles, please click here.
  • Bonus Qmiles earned will reflect in your Privilege Club account within 30 to 60 days, from the date that the Qmiles which your reward points were converted into, are credited to your Privilege Club account.
  • The awarding of 20% bonus Qmiles, with every successful conversion of reward points into Qmiles, is governed by the conversion ratios.
  • Your bonus Qmiles will not be calculated as a percentage of any number of Qmiles, which reward points were not converted into. Bonus Qmiles will only be calculated as a percentage of a number of Qmiles, which reward points were converted into.
  • Your bonus Qmiles will not be calculated as a percentage of any number of Qmiles, earned with a Qatar Airways credit card.
  • Bonus Qmiles will not be calculated retroactively under any circumstances. This means that if the Qmiles which your reward points were converted into, are credited to your Privilege Club account, after the period during which this offer is valid has passed, you will not earn 20% bonus Qmiles.
  • Once Qmiles are credited to your Privilege Club account, after the transaction of converting your reward points into Qmiles, the transaction will not be reversed.

Full terms and conditions and a list of participating banks can be found on the Qatar Airways promotion page.

Quick Thoughts

Firstly, I should apologize as this promotion appears to have been published a few weeks ago and I missed it so there aren’t many days left in which to make the most of the transfer. Still, better late than never!

Secondly, I should point out that if you’re reading this from the US and you’ve noticed that transfers from American Express qualify for this promotion you shouldn’t get your hopes up. The American Express that’s participating in this promotion isn’t Amex USA which, sadly, isn’t a Qatar Airway partner – only Citi is a Qatar Airways transfer partner in the US.

Overall, this is a nice if not a fantastic offer to have available. Qatar Airways Qmiles have become considerably more valuable since it reduced the cost of its awards back in the summer and eliminated a lot of the surcharges that it once charged on award bookings.

Notable good uses of Qatar Airways Qmiles include the following Business Class awards:

  • USA – Doha for 70,000 miles one-way (~58,333 ThankYou Points)
  • USA – the Maldives for 85,000 miles one-way (~70,833 ThankYou Points)
  • USA – India for 80,000 miles one-way (~66,667 ThankYou Points)
  • USA – New Zealand for 120,000 miles one-way (100,000 ThankYou Points)
  • Europe – Doha for 43,000 miles one-way (~35,833 ThankYou Points)
  • Europe – Singapore for 75,000 miles one-way (62,500 ThankYou Points)
  • Europe – Japan for 80,000 miles one-way (~66,667 ThankYou Points)
  • Europe – South Africa for 75,000 miles one-way (62,500 ThankYou Points)

These can all be fantastic value redemptions, especially when you consider the quality of the Business Class cabins that Qatar Airways offers.

Bottom Line

Qatar Airways is currently offering an uncapped 20% bonus to anyone transferring a variety of bank rewards currencies to the Privilege Club program through 2 November 2021. With Qatar Airways offering one of the best Business Class products in the world and with the airline currently operating one of the largest flight networks in the world, this could be a good offer to use if you can find award availability that works for you to a destination that’s currently open to visitors.

  1. 1. Does Qatar offer more availability if their own flights than what’s available on American?
    2. Does the 20% bonus really take 30 days or happens quickly? Want to transfer and book if it is within a week.
    Thanks

    • 1. Historically, no.
      2. Historically, also no, but there is no guarantee. I don’t know why that clause is in the terms and conditions (it seems odd). Transfers from Citi to Qatar Airways usually take around 2 days so I’m not sure why the bonus wouldn’t be added on when the points arrive in a person’s Privilege account.

Sorry I can’t be of more help.
