IHG may offer the more interesting points earning opportunities when it releases its quarterly Accelerate promotions but Hilton is definitely the chain which offers the greatest points earning opportunities year-round – compared to Marriott, Starwood and Hyatt Hilton is the chain that just keeps giving.
Recently Hilton has been offering double base points on all stays through 31 August 2018 but, for reasons that aren’t entirely obvious, the chain has now seen fit to extend the promotion date through 9 September.
An extra 9 days probably won’t make all that much difference to most people but if you’ve booked a Hilton stay over Labor Day weekend (1-3 September) this is probably good news.
Don’t forget that it’s only the base points which Hilton will double in this promotion (elite bonuses remain the same) so here’s what elites can expect to earn at most Hilton properties:
- Silver Elite – 22 points/dollar
- Gold Elite – 28 points/dollar
- Diamond Elite – 30 points/dollar
I value Hilton Honors points at approximately 0.4 cents each so, under the promotion, these are the effective rebates for elite members:
- Silver Elite – 8%
- Gold Elite – 2%
- Diamond Elite – 0%
If you can combine those effective rebates with some of the Hilton sales that are running at the moment you could end up with a very nice discount on your trip….and you can do even better if you hold one of the (many) Hilton Honors credit cards.
If you’ve already signed up for the Hilton Double Points promotion there’s nothing more you need to do while those who are yet to register can do so via this link.
