TopCashback (UK) Offering Avios For £0.008

British Airways Executive Club and Avios have both been cashback options for UK TopCashback members for some time but it’s never really been a hugely attractive proposition. There have been quite a few reports of Avios not tracking correctly and the cashback to Avios conversion rate hasn’t been good enough to warrant the hassle of having to chase a miss-recorded transaction…up until now.

Get Avios For £0.008 Via TopCashback (UK)

Historically, £10 worth of cashback would earn you 1,050 Avios (TCB offered a 5% bonus) in either the British Airways Executive Club or the independent Avios program and that would mean that you would be paying at least £0.0095 per Avios.

That’s pretty close to what most UK Avios collectors seem to value Avios at so it’s not that exiting an option.

It’s worth pointing out that £0.0095 was the very minimum you would be paying for the Avios as, if another retailer you may use (like Amazon) was to offer a bonus of over 5%, then you would be forgoing that to earn the Avios and that would make the Avios more expensive.

Now, however, TopCashback has made things interesting.

The bonus on Avios payouts has been increased from 5% to 25% and that brings the cost of Avios right down.

With a 25% bonus (and using my account as an example) I can take cash…..

…or I can use that £18 to purchase 2,250 Avios.

If I don’t generally use my cashback in any way other than a cash withdrawal or Avios then I’m essentially buying Avios at £0.008 each.

With most Avios collectors in the UK valuing Avios at around £0.01 each this looks like a very nice bonus.

For me the maths isn’t quite so straightforward as I’d never simply take cash out of TCB – I’d either take an Amazon Gift card (currently offering a 3.5% bonus)…..

…or any number of other options currently offering a 6% bonus:

So if I was to convert my cashback to Avios I would be forgoing one of those options and that makes the price I’m paying (for the Avios) slightly higher.

I would be paying between £18.63 and £19.08 for 2,250 Avios and that works out to between £0.0083 and £0.0085 per Avios.

I’m not sure how long this promotion is going to be available for as there doesn’t appear to be any indication on the TopCashback website…but if you have a TopCashback balance that you’re thinking of converting to Avios then I’d do it sooner rather than later – you never know when this promotion will be pulled.
