Hilton Honors has today announced that it is extending the status expiration dates of all its elite members around the world and, in a surprise move, it has announced that this extension will also apply to elite members who were due to lose their status at the end of this month.

Here’s What Hilton Just Announced

Elite Status Expiring March 2020

All members whose 2019 status was scheduled to be downgraded on 31 March 2020 (irrespective of tier) will automatically receive an extension through 31 March 2021.

So, if you have Hilton Diamond status now but didn’t earn enough elite night credits in 2019 to keep that Diamond status for another year, Hilton has just extended your status through March 2021.

Elite Status Expiring March 2021

All Hilton Honors members who earned enough status credits in 2019 to earn Silver, Gold or Diamond status through 31 March 2021 will no longer see that status expire in a little over a yea’s time.

That status is now locked in through 31 March 2022 – that’s 24 months of guaranteed status.

Points Expiration Dates Extended

Earlier this month, Hilton announced that it was pausing the expiration of all points scheduled to expire by 31 May 2020. Today Hilton has said that all points expirations will be frozen through 31 December 2020.

Bottom Line

The points expiration extension isn’t really a big deal as it’s remarkably easy to stop Hilton points from expiring, but the status extensions are very nice move.

IHG Rewards has already lowered its requirements for elite status this year but Hilton Honors is the first of the big 3 hotel loyalty programs to announce a status extension (and a very generous status extension) for its elites.

Now we just have to wait and see how long it takes Marriott to follow suit…my guess is that we’ll hear from Bonvoy within 24 hours 🙂

  1. This certainly is fantastic news!! It’ll be interesting to see if the counters get reset next January, or if any stays already done this year will be included. Would be awesome if the did ‼️ fingers crossed
