Delta removing seats from 179 Aircraft – Don’t get too excited…it’s not for your comfort.

How not to be a jerk on an airplane – Travel & leisure has compiled a list of stories that have made the news all demonstrating just how rude passengers can be. I still prefer my guides on how not to be a tourist (Don’t Be a Tourist – At the Airport & On Board and Don’t be a tourist – At Your Destination)

ANA now partnering with Lexus to offer “smooth connections in comfort” at Haneda – Lufthansa is probably the best known airline for transferring it’s first class passengers in style (using Porsche cars) and now ANA has started a similar service with Lexus – hardly the same class of car but it’s better than walking! 🙂

Airbus patents economy-class sleep pods – If this ever comes to fruition I’ll eat my Dodgers baseball cap! Still, it’s nice to dream that, one day, we may see a return of a modicum of comfort to economy class. It’s never going to happen….but it’s nice to dream.

Hawaiian Airlines goes over-the-top for the Oakland Raiders – bearing in mind that the Raiders may soon be plying their trade in the City of Angels I should probably be polite about them….but do they really need and their own quadrants of the plane?

I had to laugh at the quote from a Hawaiian Airlines representative who claimed “For some guys, it’s the only time they can watch a movie during the entire football season“. Who do you think you’re kidding?!

Liza Minnelli takes a 200-mile Uber ride – No, it wasn’t by choice! It would seem that air turbulence has respect for no one…not even a star like Liza. When her flight between Charlotte and Wilmington encountered “extreme turbulence” the pilot made the decision to turn back to Charlotte and Ms Minnelli was left with a 200 mile cab ride.

JetBlue opens a potato farm at JFK – JetBlue unveiled a produce garden at JFK on Thursday (no, apparently I’m not joking!). Apparently the garden is being run in partnership with Terra Chips (served on JetBlue) and, if all goes well, potatoes from this garden will go to making chips that are eventually served onboard. Per Brian Summers:

Here are the details on the farm:

  • It is 24,000 square feet.

  • It features 3,000 crates of potato plans, herbs and other produce.

  • Each harvest should produce more than 1,000 pounds of blue potatoes.

  • JetBlue will also grow arugula, beets, mint and basil. And probably other stuff too.

  • It is the first blue potato farm at an airport. [Why does this not surprise me?]

  • Some of produce will go straight to airport restaurants.

  • JetBlue will also donate some produce to local food pantries.

  • JetBlue will also grow other plants chosen to deter birds and other wildlife from the area.
