There have been a number of hotels opening their doors over the past week that will be of interest to miles & point collectors. I’ve already covered the new W Miami and the luxurious Park Hyatt Resort Mallorca and today it’s the turn of the Marriott Resort and Spa on Nai Yang Beach in Thailand.

Location

The property is set on Nai Yang beach, a ten minute drive south of Phuket International airport. Surrounded by the Sirinath National Park the resort isn’t short of tropical vegetation and lush green forest and appears to mix convenience (beaches and airport) with access to nature trails and beautiful scenery.

The Resort

This isn’t, strictly speaking, a brand new property. Formerly the Imperial Adamas Beach Resort, the property has had an incredible 2.3 Billion Baht ($65m) spend on renovations and only opened it’s doors to the public last week.

Things start off looking pretty good with the hotel lobby….

…and get better with the rooms:

The resort has 180 rooms ranging from the “standard” garden view/pool view rooms….

…through Premium rooms….

…and on to luxurious-looking 2 bedroom suites….

….and 2-bed beachfront villas with over 1,200 sq ft of space and an outdoor space of over 2,500 sq ft!

The dining choices appear to be pretty good too with the resort offering both Thai and international cuisine.

The Andaman Kitchen is an all-day dining restaurant featuring “a wide array of dishes“…..

….. the beachfront Big Fish Restaurant & Bar offers fresh seafood and “a wide range of enticing beverages, from local signature drinks to international renowned cocktails“…..

The property also offers an open-air lobby lounge with views out over the water:

From a facilities/amenities point of view the resort also has a large lagoon-inspired swimming pool, a fully equipped 24 hour fitness center, and the Quan Spa with signature treatments….

…and there’s even a beachside pirate-themed “Kid’s Club” to keep the younger guests entertained.

Awards & Prices

The Marriott Nai Yang Beach Resort is a Category 7 property meaning that award nights cost 30,000 – 35,000 Marriott Rewards points:

During peak sea on (which in Phuket is November through February when the rains stay away) the cost of a standard  room ranges from $166 (5,980 BHT) to $274 (9,702 BHT) if you ignore peak dates around Christmas and New Year:

even when you add on the taxes and service fees (15%- 18%) that would still only see you getting less than 1 cent per point in value from your Marriott Rewards and that’s not great.

Unless you’re points rich (or perhaps even cash not so rich) this doesn’t look like a prime candidate for award redemptions – the cash rates are low enough to make those more attractive.

Bottom Line

I’m may be flying out to Thailand later this year so there’s a chance I may decide to visit this property (although if the Park Hyatt Bangkok opens that’s where I’ll be going).

It’s a shame that the only pictures Marriott has released so far are renderings but I’m sure real-life images will appear soon enough. From what we’ve been shown the resort looks very nice indeed and, at rates around $170/night I’d definitely be tempted to visit.
