Before we get to the main point of this article…
Please accept our apologies for the vague headline, but there’s a very good reason for it (and no, it’s not clickbait!)
The bank whose credit cards are discussed in this post has recently implemented some truly idiotic rules around what we can and cannot include in articles that go on to appear (in very abbreviated form) in our daily email newsletter.
These rules include, amongst other things, restrictions on the use of the bank’s name, the names of its credit cards, and images of its credit cards in any article that appears in our daily newsletter. So, even though we’re promoting this bank’s products, because this article will appear in the newsletter, we have to use a very vanilla headline and featured image, and we cannot even use the bank’s name in the introductory paragraph.
No, we’re not happy about it either.
Now, on to the bit you probably want to know about…
In the past few years, Chase has taken to offering a variety of quarterly targeted spending bonuses across its co-branded card portfolio, and with the third quarter of 2023 now a few days old, more spending bonuses have been launched.
New Chase spending bonuses
I’m mostly out of luck this quarter as only one of my (many) Chase cards is showing offers for July – September 2023 and that’s my card_name. Other cardholders may be more fortunate.
This is what my offer looks like:
“You’ll earn 5X total points for every $1 you spend on up to $1,500 in combined purchases at gas stations, grocery stores and restaurants with your IHG One Rewards Credit Card from July 1 through September 30, 2023.”
Recently, there hasn’t been too much variation in the quarterly spending promotions that have been targeted to the different co-branded cards, so there’s a strong chance that if one of your cards is showing an offer, this is the offer that you’ll see (once again, I find myself wishing that I had this offer targeted to my card_name).
There is, however, also a chance that a different offer may show up.
As has been the case with a lot of other similar promotions, these offers will be targeted to Chase’s co-branded credit cards and not Chase’s standalone cards (e.g. the card_name), so if you hold any co-branded cards (e.g. the card_name or the card_name), make sure you check to see if you have been targeted.
Checking for bonuses
If you want to see if Chase has targeted you for any bonuses, you should head over to Chase.com/mybonus, enter your name, your zip code, and the last 4 digits of your Chase credit card in the appropriate fields and the site will show you if that card has been targeted for a bonus offer. If you’re out of luck, try another card!
Note: Cards that are not open to new applicants (like the legacy IHG Rewards Select credit card) are also eligible to be targeted for these bonuses.
Key terms
The specific wording will differ from card to card, but the key terms that have been applied to the promotions that I can see look like this:
General terms
- To be eligible for this bonus offer, you must activate by 09/30/23 11:59 PM ET.
- Total points shown is the maximum you will earn on those purchases during the promotion, regardless of what you already earn on those purchases in your rewards program.
- For more information about Chase rewards categories, see chase.com/RewardsCategoryFAQs.
- Purchases posted to your account with a transaction date during the offer period are eligible for this offer. Delays by the merchant could extend the transaction date beyond the offer period.
- Please allow up to 8 weeks after qualifying purchases post to your account for points to post to your account. (“Purchases” do not include balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee, if applicable.)
- To qualify for this bonus offer, account must be open and not in default at the time of fulfillment.
- This bonus offer is non-transferable and applies only to cardmembers who receive marketing communications for this offer.
- Eligible credit cards: IHG One Rewards Select Credit Card. See your Rewards Program Agreement for more details.
Terms specific to the card_name offer:
- You will earn 5 points total for each $1 spent in the gas stations, grocery stores, and dining at restaurants categories on up to $1,500 in total combined purchases from 07/01/2023 to 09/30/2023.
- Eligible credit cards: card_name.
Full terms and conditions can be found on the targeted offer.
Bottom line
If you hold a Chase co-branded credit card, there’s a chance that you’ve been targeted for a 3Q spending bonus, so head over to Chase.com/mybonus to see what (if anything) is waiting for you.
If you’re fortunate enough to find bonus offers linked to one or more of your cards, don’t forget to compare the value of what you’re being offered to the value you can get from the other cards in your portfolio as the 3Q bonuses may not be the best deals open to you.
