If you follow our Twitter feed (@Traveling4Miles) you’ll know that we’re currently at Marriott’s Waiohai Beach Club on the beautiful island of Kauai – we love it here! The views are fantastic:

The pool is beautiful (if a little on the small side):

The staff are friendly, there are some great tours of The Garden Isle to do, plus there’s plenty to keep the kids happy; all of which keeps us coming back every year.

As happy as we have been with our ownership here it has become obvious recently that some of the units were becoming a little worn around the edges and that an upgrade was in order. Well, as it happens, an upgrade is what we’re going to get!

From the end of this month (August) the resort will be renovating all the units in all 8 buildings. The resort performs a minor upgrade every five years but this set of renovations will be the big ‘ten year renovation’ so we can expect a lot of change in our units.

We’ve chatted with management here and the refurbishment will start with Building 1 (September), Buildings 2, 3 & 4 (October), Buildings 5 & 6 (November) and Buildings 7 & 8 in December, if all goes to plan.

There isn’t a model unit to illustrate what the updated units will be like, but management have set out swatches and pictures in the lobby, showing the new colour schemes and design features.

The kitchens are getting a full make-over, too. They’ll be re-fitted with new appliances and, according to the front desk, new tableware and cutlery, so when we visit next year it should be like having a whole new unit!

Please be aware that pictures of the units that we took on this trip (which you can find on our Facebook page) will all be out of date come the end of the year – but we’ll be sure to post new ones as soon as possible!
