Marriott has launched what it’s calling its biggest sale of the year in honor of the start of the spending season. The Marriott Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale is now on and will run through to 27 November 2017.

I’m not entirely sure how Marriott can call this its biggest sale of the year when it only applies to properties in North America, the Caribbean and Latin America…but then I’m not in marketing so I’m not programmed to write nonsense.

The headline promotion appears to be that you can book rooms from $89/night (excluding taxes) and, if you’re a fan of Marriott merchandise, you can get up to 35% off bedding, beds, towels etc… too.

I really don’t know where to start with this woeful attempt at a sale.

  • It misses out most of the world
  • It only applies to stays through 15 January 2016
  • Stays are non-refundable
  • I can’t seem to find any decent deals.

I searched 4 separate random dates for Los Angeles and got this message on each occasion….

…and rates in cities like New York don’t look all that different to normal rates to me:

How can Marriott call this its biggest sale of the year”?? It’s terrible!

Even if you find a deal worth booking how are you meant to get to the destination economically? Your room may be an acceptable rate but the cheap flights for travel through the end of the year mostly disappeared some time ago so what you save on the hotel you lose on air fare.

Bottom Line

I’m not entirely sure why Marriott has even bothered with this sale. It’s clearly just a token nod to Black Friday and Cyber Monday and nothing to get excited about. What’s worse is that I’m pretty sure Starwood’s Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale isn’t going to be any better (Update: SPG promotion now live)

If anyone actually finds a great deal please let me know in the comments.
