We already have OneWorld, the Star Alliance and SkyTeam as alliances unifying a large number of the world’s full service carriers but now we have something big at the other end of the scale too. Eight low-cost carriers in the Asia-Pacific region have banded together to form the world’s first pan-regional low-cost alliance that they’re calling “The Value Alliance”.

The airlines comprising the new alliance are as follows:

  • Cebu Pacific (Philippines)
  • Jeju Air (South Korea)
  • Nok Air (Thailand)
  • NokScoot (Thailand)
  • Scoot (Singapore)
  • Tigerair Singapore
  • Tigerair Australia
  • Vanilla Air (Japan)

The Value Alliance’s webpage claims that the airlines in the alliance “provide unparalleled access to more than 160 destinations from 17 hubs across Australia, North Asia and South East Asia, covering a third of the world.

Furthermore: “In 2015, the airlines collectively served more than 47 million travellers with a combined fleet of 176 aircraft.”

The formation of the value Alliance will mean that customers will be able to view and book airfares on all the member airlines in one go, directly from each member’s website.

In addition to this, passengers will be able to purchase all the extras that come with flying on low cost carriers such as seat selection, meals and extra baggage all at once and without having to visit each airline’s website separately.

I’ve checked and these features aren’t available yet and no date has been published to give any indication of when all of this will come together….but I guess this is a start.
