At the beginning of every month Flying Blue (the loyalty program for Air France/KLM) releases discounted mileage awards for Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class travel on Air France and KLM. These “Promo Awards” are advertised as offering “up to 50% off” award travel but, while some awards may be discounted by 50%, nowadays we’re more used to seeing discounts of around 25% on the awards most would like to book.

The November Flying Blue Promo Awards were released a couple of weeks ago (for travel between 1 January and 28 February 2019) but they weren’t all that great for travelers based in North America (European travelers heading east fared a lot better).

Now Flying Blue has released a bonus set of Promo Awards valid for travel between 1 January and 31 March 2019 but that must be booked by 16 November 2019.

What’s On Offer?

As usual there are a series of short-haul (intra-Europe) Promo Awards…..

…but it’s the long-haul bonus offers that I suspect most readers will be interested in:

Long-Haul Business Class Bonus Offers

There are two bonus Business Class Promo Awards on offer:

The first is for flights to/from Beijing for 55,000 miles in either direction:

And the second is for flights to/from Toronto for 35,000 miles in either direction:

The Beijing deal is ok but nothing to get overly excited about while the Toronto offer is very good indeed.

It’s worth remembering that Flying Blue (Air France/KLM) is a transfer partner for Chase, Citi And Amex so to get a Business Class between North American and Europe for 35,000 Ultimate Rewards, ThankYou or Membership Rewards points is a pretty impressive deal.

Roundtrips cost double the advertized one-way rate so 70,000 Flying Blue Miles (or Amex/Citi/Chase points) gets you a great Business Class trip….although you will have to pay surcharges on top of the mileage requirement.

Long-Haul Premium Economy Bonus Offers

There are three Premium Economy bonus offers available and all look to be pretty good deals when you consider the distances (flying times involved).

My personal favorite out of these three is the Mexico City promo but all three would be a good use of miles.

Long-Haul Economy Class Bonus Offers

The value of these offers really depends on the size of the surcharges that Flying Blue add to the bookings but, purely for a “miles required” standpoint, some of these look very good.

New York for 14,000 miles each way looks pretty good until you realise that you can hit the West Coast for just 1,000 miles more (each way) and can get to one of my favorite cities in the world (San Francisco) for an incredible 17,000 miles each way.

Bottom Line

If you see something that you like in this offer don’t wait too long before you decide to book – all bookings must be made by 16 November and I suspect that award availability will be drying up pretty quickly at these rates.
