Over the past year (possibly a little longer) KLM has started to offer some very good Business Class fares originating in London and, considering what an expensive origination point actually it, this is a little surprising.

Still, I’m sure most people don’t care why KLM is offering good roundtrip Business Class fares out of London they just want to know how much they cost….so here’s what I’ve found:

  • Abu Dhabi – from £1,249
  • Bahrain – from £1,299
  • Bangalore – from £1,599
  • Bogota – from £1,409
  • Delhi – from £1,359
  • Dubai – from £1,349
  • Johannesburg – from £1,779
  • Kuwait – from £1,369
  • Mumbai – from £1,499
  • Muscat – from £1,499
  • Osaka – from £1,799
  • Panama City – from £1,529
  • Quito – from £1,749
  • Seoul – from £1,429
  • Taipei – from £1,679
  • Xiamen – from £1,769

The full set of deals on offer are HERE and Economy Class fares are discounted too.

The promotion page doesn’t appear to give any of the fare rules so here’s what I’ve found out  by using the ITA Matrix search:

  • Reservations needed 7 days in advance of departure
  • Bookings must be made on/before 18 February 2019
  • Valid for travel commencing on/after 21 February 2019
  • Travel must be complete by 31 January 2020
  • A Saturday night stay is required
  • Maximum stay is 3 months
  • 1 stopover permitted in each direction (in Amsterdam or Paris) at a cost of €75.00 each

Thoughts

There are three things worth remembering here:

  1. All these fares will require a connection in either Paris or Amsterdam
  2. All these fares will credit to various SkyTeam loyalty programs so find out which work best for.
  3. Now that the Virgin Atlantic/Delta/Air France/KLM JV has been approved it’s possible that trips booked for travel towards the end of the year will be eligible to be credited to the Virgin Flying Club (but there are no guarantees).

There are some excellent fares on offer here and with prices like £1,249 to Abu Dhabi, £1,349 to Dubai and £1299 to Bahrain they could be a nice way to get some winter sun in comfort.

Make sure you’re careful to check which aircraft are operating on which routes as not all flights will necessarily book on to KLM/Air France (like the route to Delhi which includes Jet Airways) and, even if the flights are on KLM/Air France, the Business Class cabins can vary quite significantly.

The Air France A380 Business Class seats are a throwback to the 1990’s while most of the Air France 777-300ER Business Class seats are excellent (for example).

I suggest that you take extra care make sure you check the seat maps of the aircraft in your proposed itinerary before you book.

Ideally you should be booking into Business Class cabins that have a 1-2-1 seating layout throughout…..like this:

Or this:

And you should be trying to avoid Business Class cabins that have six seats in a single row…like this:

The differences between the good cabins and the poor ones are stark and you’ll have a considerably better trip if you manage to stick to the more modern seats and cabin.
