IHG’s 2022 Cyber Sale has started (more deals are on the way)

Today has seen IHG launch its 2022 “Cyber Sale” which will run through Friday next week (2 December) and which will see more offers added as the sale period progresses.

As things stand, there are four promotions that have gone live:

• Advanced Saver – save up to 20%
• Book Early & Save – save up to 20%
• Book Early and Save (Europe) – save up to 25%
• Download the app. Get 1,000 points

On Monday next week, IHG is promising to unlock a further three promotions:

• Members-only mystery offer (which will have something to do with an “unlimited bonus points offer”)
• Save more on Reward Nights (which sounds like IHG will be offering cheaper award bookings)
• Big savings on travel items (which sounds like it will offer members the opportunity to get truly poor value from their points by using them to buy things from IHG’s shopping catalogue at a reduced rate).

As soon as these three promotions go live, full details will appear here on TFM.

Advance Saver promotion – Key terms

• The Advance Saver promotion applies to properties in USA, Canada, Japan, Asia-Pacific, HK Special Administrative Region of PRC, Macau Special Administrative Region of PRC and TW Province of PRC.
• The Advance Saver promotion is valid only for bookings made from 22 November 2022 until 2 December 2022 using the “Advance Saver” – IHG® Rewards Member Rate” rate(s).
• All bookings must be consumed by 28 February 2023 at participating IHG® hotels and resorts.
• The discount is up to 10% off the Best Flexible Rate when you book at least seven (7) days in advance.
• An additional 10% is also available for IHG One Rewards members.
• Based on property selection, deeper discounts may be available.
• Not all IHG® hotels and resorts participate in this promotion; selected hotels are offering the Book Early & Save rate. Please check with the hotel of choice to verify which rate is available.
• Blackout dates apply and rooms are subject to availability. Certain room types may be excluded from the promotion.
• Hotel policy varies in regard to the minimum length of stay required and number of guests allowed per room.
• Not applicable with other discounted rate promotions.
• Not applicable to group bookings.
• Hotel-specific early departure fee applies.
• IHG® Army Hotels, Alliance Resorts, Six Senses and Mr and Mrs Smith are excluded from the promotion.
• Must cancel at least seven (7) days before your stay for direct bookings (e.g. IHG.com or IHG mobile app) and for bookings made with a travel agent or online booking platform (e.g. Booking.com, Expedia).
• If you cancel past the window, you will be charged for the first night of the stay.

Book Early and Save – Key terms

• The Book Early and Save promotion applies to properties in Mexico, Latin America, the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and Korea, India, Middle East, Africa and participating US hotels.
• The Promotion is valid on selected bookings made between 22 November 2022 and 2 December 2022 (both dates inclusive).
• All bookings must be consumed by 28 February 2023 at participating IHG® hotels and resorts.
• The discount is up to 10% off the Best Flexible Rate which is an unrestricted, non-qualified, non-discount rate when you book at least three (3) days in advance.
• An additional 10% is also available for IHG One Rewards members.
• Full prepayment is required at the time of booking and the rate is non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-cancellable.
• If you do not arrive or check into the hotel on your arrival date, your booking will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund.
• Based on property selection, deeper discounts may be available.
• Blackout dates apply and rooms are subject to availability.
• Certain room types may be excluded from the rate.

Book Early and Save (Europe) – Key terms

• The promotion is valid on selected bookings made between 22 November 2022 and 2 December 2022.
• All bookings must be consumed by 28 February 2023 at participating IHG® hotels and resorts located in the United Kingdom and Europe.
• The discount is 15% off the Best Flexible Rate, which is an unrestricted, non-qualified, non-discount rate when you book at least three (3) days in advance.
• IHG One Rewards members can receive an additional 10% off the Best Flexible Rate.
• Full prepayment is required at the time of booking and the rate is non-refundable, non-exchangeable and non-cancellable.
• If you do not arrive or check into the hotel on your arrival, your booking will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund.
• Based on property selection, deeper discounts may be available.
• Blackout dates apply and rooms are subject to availability.
• Certain room types may be excluded from the rate.

IHG App Download offer – Key terms

• To participate in this “Download the App to Get 1K Points Offer”, an individual must be an IHG One Rewards member and not previously downloaded the IHG® App.
• If a member meets these requirements and downloads the IHG App on or before 2 December 2022, the member can earn 1,000 IHG One Rewards bonus points.
• This Offer is valid and applies to first-time downloads only.
• The Offer can only be redeemed once, and a maximum of 1,000 bonus points can be achieved.
• The time needed for awarding points can vary with each promotion, so please allow up to six (6) weeks for bonus points to be posted to recipient’s account.

Quick thoughts

Right now, I plan to sit back and do absolutely nothing with this promotion until I see what IHG’s deals look like next week and until I see what cash back Rakuten will offer on IHG bookings for Black Friday/Cyber Monday (cash back stands at just 3% at the time of writing but I expect Rakuten to boost that at some point in the next 7 days).

I see no reason to rush into any bookings just yet.

Overall, I can’t say that the opportunity to save 20% – 25% off the Best Flexible Rate is looking enticing (because it isn’t) but I’m interested to see what next week’s “Save more on Reward nights” promotion looks like because in conjunction with the current points sale, it may open up some good redemption opportunities at some of IHG’s higher-end properties.

Bottom line

IHG has started to reveal its promotions for this year’s Black Friday/Cyber Monday period, but as things stand, there isn’t much to get excited about. Next week, however, things may be different so make sure you check back on Monday to see if IHG’s newest deals have made life a little more interesting.
