IHG PointBreaks Is Back – Book Now For Reservations Through 30 September

Yes, I know I’m a little late with this news but if you’ve been reading the blog recently you’ll know why 🙂

IHG has now released the list of hotels and resorts which are participating in its latest PointBreaks promotion. These hotels are bookable from as little as 5,000 points per night while the more popular properties on the list cost either 10,000 or 15,000 points per night.

IHG PointBreaks – The Headlines

• Book for stays from now through 30 September 2018
• 136 properties are participating in total
• 3 InterContinental properties are participating
• 3 Hotel Indigo properties are participating
• 21 Crowne Plaza properties are participating

That isn’t a very impressive set of numbers but there are a few properties that are worth looking at.

It’s always good to see InterContinental properties in a PointBreaks list even if they are always in the 15,000 point/night bracket – this time around the following InterContinental properties are included:

• InterContinental Al Khobar
• InterContinental Buenos Aires
• InterContinental Doha

It’s pretty easy to see what IHG is doing here as two of the properties are based in countries where the temperature will regularly be over 110 degrees in the summer months and the other is in the summer hemisphere where it’s winter right now – occupancy at all three properties is probably expected to be low hence their inclusion in the latest PointBreaks promotion.

There are a few airport properties included in the latest PointBreaks list and while these aren’t exactly “destination properties” they could be a good way of saving some cash if you need an overnight stay before/after a trip.

The Holiday Inn properties at Ontario (CA), Orlando, New Orleans, Jackson/Pearl, Raleigh-Durham and Toronto are just a few examples of airport properties that can be booked for 10,000 points/night and the Holiday Inn Express properties at LAX and Denver as well as the Crowne Plaza at London Heathrow are examples of 15,000 point/night properties.

Overall, however, I can’t see anything to get excited about here – it’s quite a poor selection of properties which I can’t see being very useful to most readers.

If you happen to be looking to visit an area where a PointBreaks property is located then you’re in luck and should be able to save some money but I can’t see anything on this list that has me making new plans.

How To Make The Most Of PointBreaks

If you see a property on this list that you’d like to book you can use the latest IHG points sale to purchase points for as little as 0.5 cents each. Here’s what that looks like in terms of PointBreaks properties:

• 5,000 points/night = $25/night
• 10,000 points/night = $50/night
• 15,000 points/night = $75/night

If you hold the IHG Rewards Premier credit card you get the 4^thnight of every award booking free so if you stay exactly 4 nights your nightly rates could be as low as $18.75/$37.50/$56.25….and that’s pretty good going if the property happens to be one you need to book.

If I was planning on visiting Buenos Aires I know I wouldn’t mind paying the equivalent of $56.25/night over 4 nights 🙂
