Quick thoughts

I love a discounted Hyatt stay as much as anyone so it’s great so see a worldwide sale launched…even if it only covers a couple of months.

It’s important to note that while the headline discount is shown as 25%, some will argue that the actual discount being offered is less than that because the discount is calculated on the “Standard Rate” and not the lowest non-sale rate that a property is offering.

You can see this with the following real-world example from the Hyatt Regency in London:

a couple of white squares with black text

Here, the Private Sale rate is ~25% lower than the standard rate but only ~17% lower than the Advance Purchase rate (the cheapest non sale rate) but comparing the two isn’t actually fair.

A key difference here is that while the Private Sale rate can be cancelled up to 72 hours before scheduled arrival, the Advanced Purchase rate is non-refundable once booked. To make a more like-for-like comparison, the Private Sale rate should be put up against the lowest non sale refundable rate (the Member Rate), and when you do that you see that the Private Sale rate here is offering a discount of over 23%…which is pretty great.

Note: The discounts on offer may vary from property to property so not all bookings are guaranteed to offer a 20%+ discount – make sure you do the math to see just exactly what discount you’re being offered before you book.

Overall and based on a limited number of searches, this looks like a sale that may offer some promise. I’ve found the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi available for $184/night + taxes/fees, the Grand Hyatt Singapore available for $175/night + taxes and fees, the Grand Hyatt San Francisco available for $135/night + taxes and fees, and the Hyatt Regency Washington for $146/night + taxes and fees so there are definitely some good deals out there.

I know it may be a little early in the year to be thinking about this but if you think that you may struggle to maintain your current World of Hyatt status this year (and your current status is one that you’re keen to hold on to), this sale may offer a good chance for a mattress run or two that may make a difference.

Bottom line

Hyatt has unveiled a new Private Sale that’s valid at over 975 properties around the world. The sale is offering discounts of up to 25% on the standard room rate and some locations are throwing in free breakfasts and discounts on in-house dining as well. Bookings must be made by 22 March 2022 and the discounts are valid on stays consumed between 1 April and 31 May 2022.
