Delta has launched a new promotion with which it’s giving flyers the opportunity to fast-track their way to Medallion status through bonus Medallion Qualification Miles, Medallion Qualification Segments, and Medallion Qualification Dollars. Also, rather amazingly, Delta is also offering elite status credits for award bookings.

Delta’s 2022 Medallion Status Accelerators

For flights taken between 1 April and 31 December 2021, Delta flyers will earn the following:

  • Basic Economy & Main Cabin bookings: 50% more Medallion Qualification Miles (MQM), Medallion Qualification Segments (MQS), and Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQD).
  • Delta One, Delta Premium Select, First Class, and Delta Comfort+ bookings: 75% more MQMs, MQSs, and MQDs.

The above bonuses not only apply to cash fares booked for travel on Delta but also include award bookings and cash + miles bookings too. Better yet, Delta has confirmed that these bonuses will also apply to challenges such as Reclaim My Status and Status Match and that bonus MQMs will also apply to Million Miler Status Qualification.

There’s no need to register for this promotion (everyone will automatically get the bonus earnings) but as Delta’s systems have not yet been programed to issue the bonus elite credits, any credits due from travel taken between 1 April and 15 May will be retroactively credited to SkyMiles accounts by 31 May.

To help explain how the bonus earnings will work, Delta has been kind enough to supply us with a series of examples:

Essentially what this tells us is that award bookings will earn MQMs and MQSs in the same way as cash fares tickets while the number of MQDs to be credited will be based on the number of miles used. For cash + miles bookings, the number of bonus MQDs to be credited will be based on the original mileage cost of the booking.

Key Terms

  • Eligible flights include all flights that are operated and marketed by Delta, Delta Connection Carriers, or Delta Shuttle (the flight number will begin with “DL”) and flown between 1 April and 31 December 2021.
  • Only award bookings made using SkyMiles for travel on Delta-operated flights will qualify for bonus elite credits.
  • Flights booked as part of a Delta Vacations package will qualify for bonus elite credits.
  • Pay with Miles tickets will qualify for bonus elite credits.
  • Miles + Cash tickets will qualify for bonus elite credits.
  • Post-purchase upgrades will qualify for bonus elite credits.
  • Bonuses cannot be earned for travel on partner airlines, on mileage upgrade awards, or for exception fares.
  • There are no bonus earnings for redeemable miles.

Full terms and conditions including further examples of how this promotion works can be found on the promotion page.

Bottom Line

Starting with flights taken from tomorrow (1 April) and for flights taken all the way through to the end of the year, Delta flyers will earn between 50% and 75% more elite qualifying credits on most bookings taken on Delta marketed and operated flights. The bonuses on offer will also apply to award bookings and cash + miles bookings so as long as you’re booking and flying with Delta, there’s little chance that you’ll miss out – earning Delta status in 2021 just got a whole lot easier.
