With hotels getting increasingly expensive and with a worrying number of properties now charging unconscionable destination fees/resort fees/amenity fees on top of the high room rates, Airbnb is looking like an attractive option to a lot more people…and that includes people deeply immersed in the miles and points world.

I’m finding myself booking more and more Airbnb stays every year as traveling with a teenager can be remarkably expensive when you have to book two hotel rooms every time you go away.

While clearly this means that I’m earning fewer hotel points than I did in the past, it also means that I’m always looking for ways to make sure I maximize my miles & points earnings on my Airbnb stays…and that’s where Airbnb’s airline partners come in to play.

Which Airlines Partner With Airbnb?

At the time of writing just 4 airlines partner with Airbnb but I plan to keep this blog post updated as more airline partners are added so it may be an idea to bookmark this page for future reference.

Milage Club members will earn 1 mile for every ¥200 spent with Airbnb, and first time Airbnb users can earn double miles and get a ¥3,000 discount on their first booking.

British Airways

Earning on Airbnb Stays

Using the dedicated page British Airways has set up for its partnership with Airbnb British Airways Executive Club members can earn 3 Avios per £1/€1/$1spent with Airbnb.

At the time of writing, people booking with Airbnb for the first time can also earn a bonus 500 Avios but you may be better off finding someone with a referral code as they’re generally worth more than 500 Avios (which I value at around $5).

A the time of writing, the British Airways Airbnb page is offering landlords 8,000 Avios when they host with Airbnb for the first time but you shouldn’t be jumping at this option without further research.

In the US the following sites often offer a better reward…

…while in the UK, the following site appears to be the best place to check:

Be aware that the terms and conditions of the British Airways/Airbnb partnership appear to suggest that it’s possible for rental prices to be higher when you choose to visit Airbnb through the British Airways site rather than heading directly to – make sure you compare prices before you commit to a booking.

Earning on Airbnb Stays

Using the dedicated page Delta has set up for its partnership with Airbnb, Delta SkyMiles members can earn 1 Mile per $1spent with Airbnb.

Delta is offering 1,000 bonus miles for SkyMiles members making their first booking through Airbnb:

To earn 1,000 bonus miles, complete an Eligible First Stay with a minimum booking value of $150 USD (or foreign equivalent), excluding taxes and fees. If Eligible First Stay booking value is between $75 and $149.99 USD (or foreign equivalent), excluding taxes and fees, then new users will receive 500 bonus miles. Any Eligible First Stay with a booking value below $75 will not be eligible for bonus miles.

There’s no minimum spend required to earn SkyMiles through Airbnb but be aware that miles will be awarded on the cost of the rental less taxes and fees.

It’s important to note that only bookings made via Delta’s Airbnb page will earn SkyMiles.

Earning on Airbnb Stays

Qantas has a dedicated page where you can earn points for Airbnb and hotel stays and the airline offers 1 Qantas Point per AU$1 spent through Airbnb.

Should your Airbnb rental not be charged in Australian dollars the Australian dollar equivalent amount will be calculated by Airbnb using an exchange rate at the end of the month following your stay.

Per the terms and conditions set out by Qantas, “Qantas Points will be calculated on the final value of your booking after any amendments. Qantas Points are earned on total guest fees paid to Airbnb” which suggests that the total cost of a booking (including fees and taxes) will earn Qantas Points.

For those booking through Qantas Airbnb for the first time, the airline is offering a bonus 500 points.

At the time of writing Qantas is offering up to 20,000 bonus points for Qantas Frequent Flyer members who sign up as a new Airbnb host and list their first property in Australia (note the restriction to rentals listed in Australia only).

A total booking value of AU$500 (excluding Airbnb service fees, cleaning fees, and taxes) is required to trigger the bonus.
