What would we do without the Nordic countries and the great Business Class fares that appear to come out of them on an almost daily basis? If they weren’t so cold I’d be tempted to move there!
Right now there are some very good Business Class fares on offer by KLM, Air France and Delta for flights between Helsinki and a good number of major US cities and they’re better than the SkyTeam fares that are currently available out of Madrid. The fares are available throughout most of 2019 and they appear to be pretty easy to find.
Headline Fare Rules
Regardless of the final destination the rules appear to be the same:
- Travel permitted Monday – Thursday on each transatlantic sector
- Travel permitted between 24 January and 2 December 2019 on the outbound transatlantic sector
- A Saturday night stay is required
- Maximum stay is 3 months
- Stopovers are not permitted
- Accompanied children/infants with their own seat cost 100% of the adult fare
- Infants (under 2) without their own seat cost 10% of the adult fare
There is no end date set for these fares so it may be around for a while or be pulled at any moment.
The Fares
Note: these are just that fares I’ve spotted – other cities may be available too.
- Boston – from $1,702 Roundtrip
- Chicago – from $1,702 Roundtrip
- Los Angeles – from $1,699 Roundtrip
- New York – from $1,702 Roundtrip
- San Francisco – from $1,702 Roundtrip
- Seattle – from $1,702 Roundtrip
- Washington D.C – from $1,702 Roundtrip
And, just in case anyone is wondering, yes, these fares are easy to find on sites like Google Flights which, unlike the Matrix search, will allow you to book the fares.
Here’s an itinerary to San Francisco priced up on Google Flights (and it comes out slightly cheaper than what Matrix shows)….
…and here’s an itinerary to the East Coast too:
Fare Availability
I’m not going to show availability for each and every itinerary for which I’ve found a good deal (that would take far too long) so I’m going to show availability for the Los Angeles itinerary as it is broadly representative of the availability for the fares to other cities too.
The great fares to LA are available right away….
…and continue to be available through March….
…April…
…May…
….June…
….July….
….and August….
…before there’s a slight drop off in availability in September….
…and the fare increases slightly in November….
…and it readily found in December too.
Finding The Fares
You should be able to find these pretty easily using Google Flights but I used the ITA Matrix tool to find the fares show above.
Here’s an example set of parameters that I used to find these fares.
Bottom Line
If you’re looking to fly between Europe and the US in comfort then these fares will certainly help you do that. The better value here is in the fares to the West Coast….but it’s not like the East Coast fares are bad.
Anyone tempted by these?
All the fares appear to be gone. Bummer.
Wow! Already?
I didn’t see that coming. Keep a look out as there have been times that fares like these have been resurrected
