Qatar Airways is currently offering some good Business Class fares between Scandinavia and Asia but, unlike most Qatar Airways Business Class sales we see, the fares I’m seeing are only to a limited number of cities and for a comparatively small booking window.

The Fare Rules

a large indoor pool with a staircase and people walking aroundAll these fares will get you into the excellent Al Mourjan Business Class lounge in Doha

The more important rules associated with these fares are as follows:

  • Tickets must be issued by 28 February 2018
  • Travel through 31 May 2018
  • Blackout dates are 24 March – 8 April 2018
  • Minimum stay is 3 nights
  • Maximum stay is 1 month
  • Free stopovers available in both directions (not exceeding 96 hours)

The dates are definitely more restrictive than we’re used to seeing but these fares are definitely still worth investigating further.

The Fares

The departure points offering the good fares are Helsinki and Stockholm and, so far I’ve found decent Business Class fares to the following cities:

  • Bangkok
  • Delhi
  • Manila
  • Phuket
  • Tokyo

There may be other fares out there that I haven’t noticed so make sure you search thoroughly if your preferred destination isn’t on that rather short list.

All these fares are available on the Qatar Airways website (via this link)

Note: I’ve used both ITA Matrix and Google Flights to find and verify the existence of the fares and, as I like to keep all the fares in the same currency (USD) there may be slight currency variations in what the two different sites show.

This example shows 4 different Qatar Airways aircraft operating on the 4 sectors but, if you’re flexible with your timings and layover times, you can make sure you’re booked on the A380 between Doha and Bangkok (in both directions) and the 787 Dreamliner between Helsinki and Doha (in both directions)

Both aircraft offer excellent all-aisle-access Business Class seats and the A380 has a very nice onboard bar for Business and First Class passengers.

Stockholm – Delhi From Mid $1,600’s

With this set of flights the excellent 787 Dreamliner (reviewed here) operates the Stockholm – Doha route but you can choose between the A350 and the 777 for the Doha – Delhi sector.

I prefer the Airbus A350 but, if you’re a reasonably tall person, the 777 seats may be more to your liking.

The A350 offers modern all-aisle access seats that I like a lot but the extra leg room offered in the older 777 Business Class cabin (daytime flight reviewed here and overnight flight reviewed here) is something that I know taller passengers often prefer.

There’s not really any choice with aircraft types on these routes so you’ll have the very modern 787 Business Class cabin on the Stockholm – Doha (and return) sectors….

…and the older 777 Business Class cabin between Doha and Manila (no QSuites on these 777s yet).

Helsinki – Phuket From High $1,500’s

This particular trip offers the Qatar Airways A320 Business Class cabin which, although fitted into a narrow-body aircraft, is actually quite good (reviewed here)….

….and the Qatar Airways A330 Business Class cabin which I consider to be the airline’s weakest commonly flown premium cabin (the A340 cabin is almost identical to the A330 and is reviewed here).

The presence of the A330 Business Class cabin wouldn’t stop me from booking this trip but I’d be sure to ask Qatar Airways if I could move to row 1 (better leg room) as soon as those seats are released (they’re usually blocked for Qatar Airways elites).

Just as with the fare to Bangkok, if you’re flexible with your days, times and layover times you can make sure you book yourself on to the 787 Dreamliner for the Helsinki – Doha route but, for the following sector, there’s no need for flexibility at all as you get the great Airbus A350.

Bottom Line

By almost any other airline’s standards these are fantastic Business Class fares to Asia but, by Qatar Airways standards they’re just good – I’ve seen cheaper fares to all of these destinations at one time or another.

Still, if you’re looking to travel before 31 May these fares are definitely worth looking into and, as all the fares will earn a healthy set of AAdvantage Miles, AAdvantage Elite Qualifying Miles and AAdvantage Elite Qualifying dollars, they’re good value if you’re looking for a boost towards AAdvantage Status too.

From a British Airways Executive Club point of view the Avios earnings are ok (not great) but it’s the Tier Point earnings that stand out.

All the fares bar the one to Delhi will earn 560 Tier Points which is just 40 Tier points short of Silver Status (you’ll also need 4 flights of any kind on BA to actually get Silver status) and that’s a very cheap way of getting mid-tier oneworld status.
