As of yesterday, the Qatar Airways Privilege Club uses Avios as its currency of choice and also as of yesterday, Qatar Airways Privilege Club accounts and British Airways Executive Club accounts can be linked and Avios transferred back and forth between them. That’s what makes the current new member sign-up bonus that Qatar Airways is offering so attractive.
Qatar Airways has offered new member sign-up bonuses multiple times in the past but because Qmiles (the airline’s old currency) weren’t particularly easy to collect, those sign-up bonuses were not of wide interest.
Now, however, with Avios adopted as the currency at the Privilege Club and with Avios held within the Privilege Club transferable to linked British Airways Executive Club accounts, there’s every reason to sign up for a free Qatar Airways Privilege account to lock in the 2,500 Avios that are on offer.
The sign-up bonus
- Offer open to new members only
- Earn 2,500 Avios for registering as a new member of the Qatar Airways Privilege Club
- Must join by 31 March 2022 to be eligible for the bonus.
- New members can earn a further 5,000 Avios when they book any flight that’s marketed and operated by Qatar Airways by 30 September 2022.
- Use promo code FLYQR3 when signing up to get the bonus
How to sign up and get the bonus
The key to getting the 2,500 Avios sign-up bonus is to make sure that you use the FLYQR3 promotion code when creating your new account.
The easiest way to do this is to follow this link which should lead you to the sign-up page with the promo code pre-populated in the application form.
Fill in your details, confirm that you’re not a robot, and click “create account”.
The next page that you’ll see will thank you for registering and will ask you to confirm your account via an email that should have just been sent to you.
When the email arrives (it shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes)…
…it will contain your new membership number (which you should note down somewhere safe) and a button that asks you to “verify your email address”.
Clicking the button will trigger another email which will confirm that your address has been verified…
…and it will open up a new webpage where you’ll see a further confirmation along with the option to log in to your new Privilege Club account using the credentials that you provided earlier.
When you attempt to log in, the Qatar Airways site will ask you to verify your identity one more time by sending you a one-time code via SMS, email, or both.
When the close arrives in your inbox or in your messages, use it to unlock your account.
At this point, you may be asked if you’d like to link your British Airways account to your new Privilege Club account (link to a step-by-step linking guide)…
…or you may just be taken to your Privilege Club dashboard page (the page you’ll also be taken to if you choose to skip the option to link your account to BA) where you should see that your 2,500 bonus Avios are already waiting for you.
The Avios can now be used towards an Avios + Cash redemption on Qatar Airways or they can be transferred over to the British Airways Executive Club (link to a step-by-step guide to combining Avios).
Note: At the time of writing, there appears to be an issue with transferring Avios from the Privilege Club to the British Airways Executive Club – an error message is being generated – so while transfers in the other direction appear to be working fine, you may have to wait a few hours or days before being able to move your new bonus Avios over to BA.
Bottom line
Through the end of the month, Qatar Airways is offering a bonus of 2,500 Avios to travelers who sign up for a new Privilege Club account, and with those Avios now transferable over to British Airways, this is an easy and very worthwhile bonus to go for.
