As Qatar Airways takes delivery of new aircraft and as the re-fits of its 777s continue, news of new routes which will offer the Qsuites Business Class product keep coming thick and fast. In early February the Qatar Airways CEO said that Australia would be getting Qsuite service from June (this has yet to appear on the schedules), a week later the airline confirmed that London would get yet more Qsuite service with the launch of the Airbus A350-1000 and just last week Qatar Airways announced that Chicago would be served by a Qsuite equipped 777 from April.

Now the Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker has used the ITB travel fair in Berlin to announce that Frankfurt will be served by a Qsuite equipped A350-900 from May [HT: The Points Guy]

ExpertFlyer shows that one of the two 777 aircraft which currently operate on the Doha – Frankfurt route disappears on 1 May 2018 to be replaced by an A350. When you take a look at the Business Class seat map for that A350 it shows the Qsuite configuration:

Here’s the schedule for Qatar Airways Doha – Frankfurt route from 1 May 2018 (remember that, at the time of writing, only the A350 offers the Qsuite Business Class cabin).

QR69 DOH 01:35 – 07:10 FRA (Daily 777-300ER service)
QR67 DOH 07:45 – 13:20 FRA (Daily A350-900 service)**

QR70 FRA 10:55 – 17:55 DOH (Daily 777-300ER service)

Rumored Routes

Australia

At a press conference to celebrate the launch of Qatar Airways’ service to Canberra (via Sydney) Al Baker announced to the audience and the gathered press corps that “[f]rom June you will receive a QSuite every day unless, we have a technical issue with one the airplanes

He didn’t give away any more information than that and he didn’t specifically say that the “you” he was referring to was Canberra or Sydney, but that appears to be the general understanding.

At the time of writing there isn’t a Qsuites equipped aircraft scheduled to fly to any of Qatar Airways Australian destination but I’ll update the “on which does Qatar Airways offer QSuites Business Class” post as soon as any news emerges.

Berlin & Munich

When he was in Australia the Qatar Airways CEO promised Qsuites service to the Australians and, now that he’s in Germany, he’s promising Qsuites service to the Germans.

In fairness to Al Baker (who’s known for exaggerating from time to time) his airline has already scheduled Qsuites service to Frankfurt (as discussed above) but he’s also said that Berlin and Munich will get Qsuites service by the end of summer 2018.

I’m going to admit to being a little sceptical here because I can’t see Berlin and Munich being important enough to Qatar Airways to see them get Qsuite service this early in the product’s roll out.

The airline has already said that it wants to send its A350-1000 to the East Coast, it has said that it will service Australia with Qsuite equipped aircraft by the end of June and at least one of the aircraft due to return from refurbishment is already promised to the Chicago route.

With all that in mind is Qatar Airways really going to use its next Qsuite aircraft on its routes to Munich and Berlin?

I can’t see it.

More Qsuite service to Paris, new Qsuite service to Tokyo, Singapore or any of Qatar Airways’ US destinations I would understand….but I’m having trouble believing that we’ll see all three of Qatar Airways’ German destinations getting Qsuite service by the end of the summer.

I guess it’s time to sit back and wait and see 🙂
