It’s a new day and that means that we have a new ‘daily deal’ from American Airlines. So far we’ve seen the airline offer free kids flights to the Caribbean and 40% off flights across the US but today’s daily deal is a lot more focused. Today, and today only, American Airlines is offering huge reductions on fares to various ski destinations around the US. One-way fares start at around $31 and roundtrip fares can be as low as $72.

Quick Thoughts

Today’s American Airlines daily deal looks very good for anyone looking to get away for a ski trip this year but before you start searching for fares, there are a couple of things that you should note. Firstly, don’t forget that this is a ‘daily deal’ so you don’t have plenty of time in which to make plans and to consider your options (you have to book by midnight tonight, Central Time).

Secondly, the terms and conditions state that best fares are restricted to travel on Tuesdays or Wednesdays so although you may find good deals on other days of the week (if you’re lucky), anyone hoping to find some of the cheapest deals should start off by searching for fares on those specific days.

Overall, however, this is another worthwhile daily deal that American Airlines has launched so if you’ve been considering booking a ski trip within the United States and it’s safe for your to travel, this is a sale you should probably be checking out.

Keep in mind that some areas of the US have strict measures in place to try to prevent the spread of COVID-19 so make sure you know what your chosen destination’s current conditions are before you decide to book a trip – some areas may be relatively free of restrictions while other may have restrictions that are so onerous that a trip hardly seems worthwhile.

Don’t Forget

Make sure you get the best deal out of whatever fare you book by using a credit card that gives you a good return on your travel spending and, preferably, one that also comes with good travel protections.

The Platinum Card from American Express and the Business Platinum Card from American Express both earn 5 points/dollar for spending made directly with airlines while the Chase Sapphire Reserve card earns 3 points/dollar for just about all travel spending. Also, and this is key, all three of these cards offer good trip delaytrip interruption, and trip cancellation protection.

The Amex Green Card earns 3 points/dollar for just about all travel spending but doesn’t offer the same level of protection as the Platinum Card or the Sapphire Reserve, and although the Citi Prestige Card matches the Platinum Card with its earnings of 5 points/dollar on spending made directly with airlines, the fact that it offers no travel protections at all makes it a less appealing option.

Bottom Line

For the rest of today (Central Time), American Airlines is offering great deals on flights to various ski destinations within the United States. The promotion is for Economy Class bookings only and applies to travel from January 19th through March 31st, 2021.
