Finnair has a few good Business Class deals available right now for travel between Europe and Asia and, as long as you can travel between now and May or June next year (depending on the route you want to fly), you should be able to find something that works well for you.

These may not be the very cheapest Business Class flights you’ll find between Europe and Asia but, if you want to keep off airlines like Ukraine International and if you want to earn miles/points in OneWorld rewards programs, these are probably some of the better choices for you.

In this post I’ll show:

  • The availability for each fare
  • The main fare rules
  • The Avios, Tier Points, Elite Qualifying Miles and AAdvantage Miles you can earn from booking the fares.
  • How to find the fares using ITA Matrix

Finnair Business Class Deals To Asia

  • Europe to Bangkok – From $1,516
  • Europe to Hong Kong – From $1,680
  • Europe to Beijing – From $1,705
  • Europe to Shanghai – From $1,783

All the fares posted here have the following two things in common:

  1. They must be booked by 12 or 23 September 2016
  2. No layovers of more than 4 hours

The rules for each fare vary slightly so I’ll cover those individually as I discuss each fare.

Finnair Business Class To Bangkok – From $1,516

There may be some slightly cheaper Finnair Business Class flights to Bangkok (not by much) but, if you want to make sure there are no unnecessarily long layovers, this is probably the best fare to go for.

Rules:

  • Travel now through March 2017
  • Fare requires 4 nights at the destination
  • Maximum stay is 1 month
  • 2 free stopovers allowed
  • Tickets must be issued by 12 September 2016

Availability:

As you’ll see from the screenshots below the availability for the fare is fantastic…the only downside is that the fare disappears just before Europe starts going on its spring vacation so it’s not available over Easter.

Example Flights:

All of the good fares I found to Bangkok originate in Stockholm and offer a pretty good set of flights.

The 4 hour layover in Helsinki isn’t fantastic but there lounges there are nice places to relax so it’s not like the layover would be arduous (Premium Lounge reviewed here and Business Class Lounge reviewed here).

The best bits about this fare is that the connecting flight is super-short and the long haul flight is on Finnair’s excellent Airbus A350 aircraft (reviewed here).

Miles/Avios Earnings:

The following earnings are for passengers with no status so, if you have status with American Airlines and you’re crediting to the AAdvantage program, your RDM earnings will be higher….in some cases considerably higher.screen-shot-2016-09-08-at-10-26-47

Finnair Business Class To Hong Kong – From $1,680

The $1,680 fare is available if you don’t mind flying out of a different European airport than you fly back into (a good way to see more cities) and it’s a fare UK travelers will love because you can end your trip at Heathrow. For reasons best known to the Matrix search tool this fare only shows up when you click on a date you wish to fly (i.e. it doesn’t show up in the calendar view I’ll show below)…..but it’s definitely available.

If you’d rather fly back to the European airport where you started your journey then the best fare appears to be $1,751.

Rules:

  • Travel now through May 2017
  • Fare requires 4 nights at the destination
  • Maximum stay is 1 month
  • 2 free stopovers allowed
  • Tickets must be issued by 12 September 2016

Availability:

Once again the availability for the fare is fantastic and this time, although the fare disappears at the end of March, it comes back at the beginning of April so most people should be able to make it work over the school spring vacations.

Example Flights:

Both fares I’m highlighting originate in Sweden but this is the fare I expect most UK-based travelers will be interested in as you end up back at Heathrow:

And here’s the slightly higher fare returning back to Stockholm:

example-flights-hkg

As with the Bangkok fare, the 4 hour layover in Helsinki isn’t ideal but the Helsinki lounges are pretty good (Premium Lounge reviewed here and Business Class Lounge reviewed here) so it won’t be too bad.

Also as with the Bangkok fare, the connecting flight is super-short and the long haul flight is on Finnair’s excellent Airbus A350 aircraft (reviewed here).

Miles/Avios Earnings:

The following earnings are for passengers with no status so, if you have status with American Airlines and you’re crediting to the AAdvantage program, your RDM earnings will be higher….in some cases considerably higher.

For the routing that returns you to Stockholm:screen-shot-2016-09-08-at-11-00-04

Avios collectors should note that, due to the length of the Helsinki – London flight, not only is that fare cheaper but it also offers 40 more tier points and a few more Avios too.

Finnair Business Class To Beijing – From $1,705

The $1,705 fare is available if you don’t mind flying out of a different European airport than you fly back into and, just like with the Hong Kong fare above, the Matrix search tool only shows this fare when you click on a date you wish to fly (i.e. it doesn’t show up in the calendar view I’ll show below).

If you’d rather fly back to the European airport where you started your journey then the best fare appears to be $1,750.

Rules:

  • Travel now through March 2017 for the best fare but good fares are available through June 2017.
  • Fare requires 4 nights at the destination
  • Maximum stay is 1 month
  • 2 free stopovers allowed
  • Tickets must be issued by 12 September 2016

Availability:

Availability for the fare is great and this time there should be absolutely no issues finding the deal over the spring vacations or even Christmas and New Year.

Example Flights:

This is the fare for you if you don’t mind arriving back into a different city to the one you departed from:

And here’s the slightly higher fare returning back to Stockholm:

1750-same-city-return

The layover in Helsinki is slightly shorter than on the other fares I’ve discussed so far (but not by much) but, much more importantly, the shorter connecting flights are still….short…. and the main long haul flight is still on the Airbus A350.

Miles/Avios Earnings:

The following earnings are for passengers with no status so, if you have status with American Airlines and you’re crediting to the AAdvantage program, your RDM earnings will be higher….in some cases considerably higher.

Finnair Business Class To Shanghai – From $1,783

  • Depending on the day you depart your stay can be a as short as 2 nights
  • No maximum say mentioned in the rules
  • 2 free stopovers allowed
  • Tickets must be issued by 23 September 2016

Availability:

As with all the fares availability is great throughout the period the fare is available and, as with the Beijing fare, you can book for Christmas, New Year or the spring vacations….although I should point out that Shanghai and Beijing are hardly warm in December!

The example fare above is for a departure from Paris but, depending on the time of year you want to travel, you may have to depart from Stockholm to get the best fare.

This fare offers the shortest layover in Helsinki and, once again, the main flight (Helsinki – Shanghai) is on the Finnair Airbus A350.

Miles/Avios Earnings:

The following earnings are for passengers with no status so, if you have status with American Airlines and you’re crediting to the AAdvantage program, your RDM earnings will be higher….in some cases considerably higher.

Finding The Fares

As usual I found the fares using the ITA Matrix search and these are the parameters I used (change the destination, dates, and currency to suit your needs).

screen-shot-2016-09-08-at-12-14-55Note:

  • Copy all of the following airport codes and and paste them in to the “departing from” box to ensure you find the cheapest deals out of Europe.

DUB, LGW, LHR, CDG, MAD, BCN, OSL, ARN, HEL, CPH, TXL, MUC, FRA, DUS, VIE, FCO, MXP, VCE, ZRH, GVA, PSA, BEL, ATH

  • I’ve chosen not to specify Finnair as a carrier of choice in the advanced routing code field and, instead, used the “/maxconnect 240” command to limit the search to fares offering stopovers of no more than 240 minutes (4 hours).
  • If you chose to follow my example above you will need to filter the results you get to see just he Finnair fares and availability.

Good luck and let me know if you book anything interesting 🙂
