This is a bit of a niche post but one that will still probably be useful for quite a few Europe-based TFM readers.

Finnair is a oneworld partner of British Airways and American Airlines so, if you like collecting and using AAdvantage Miles or Avios it’s an airline you should know about and pay attention to.

At one time Finnair used to offer very good Business Class deals to a lot of the destinations it serves but those deals haven’t been around for a while and have probably been consigned to history……but it isn’t all bad news.

Finnair does still occasionally offer very good Business Class deals on its flights to Dubai (which operate during the northern hemisphere winter) but the issue has always been that, while the fares could be very good, the aircraft on offer were not.

Finnair has traditionally operated narrow-body aircraft from the Airbus A320 family on its Helsinki – Dubai route which means that the Business Class cabin only offers short-haul style seating like this:

That’s not exactly the lap of luxury is it?

The good news is that Finnair is adding its excellent wide-body Airbus A350 to its Helsinki – Dubai route for winter 2018/19 and that means that the Business Class offering goes from what you see in the image above to the seats in the image below:

The Finnair A350 offers lie-flat beds in its all-aisle-access Business Class cabin (which is very similar to American’s 777-300 cabin) and is head an shoulders above a lot of other airlines’ Business Class cabins.

This is genuinely an excellent Business Class offering and, when combined with the friendly service I normally get from Finnair’s crews, is great to fly in….especially if you scored a deal on the fare in the first place.

Finnair will offer 7 flights per week between Helsinki and Dubai for winter 2018/19 on the following schedule:

AY1961 HEL 08:15 – 16:30 DXB (Mon & Wed)
AY1969 HEL 20:40 – 04:55+1 day DXB (Thu, Sat & Sun)
AY1961 HEL 08:10 – 16:05 DXB (Fri & Sun)

AY1970 DXB 06:05 – 10:35 HEL (Mon, Fri & Sun)
AY1962 DXB 17:40 – 22:10 HEL (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun)

The A350 will operate the following flights:

  • AY1961 HEL – DXB on Fridays and Sundays
  • AY1962 DXB – HEL on Fridays and Sundays

The first A350 service is currently scheduled for 2 November 2018.

Overall Finnair is adding more seats on this route by adding the A350 in place of a narrow-body aircraft and add by adding one more weekly flight than was on offer last year.
