There are a lot of good Business Class fares available right now and this is another fare to consider if you’re looking to fly in comfort between Europe and Florida next year. This fare is available across multiple months of 2019 but it does require a minimum of one night in Lisbon if you’re to get the price down to under $1,400.

View all the recent great fares I’ve written about via this link

Headline Fare Rules

  • Tickets must be booked at least 72 hours before travel
  • 2 stopovers permitted – 1 free and 1 at €75.00
  • Accompanied children/infants with their own seat cost 75% of the adult fare
  • Accompanied infants (<2 years old) without their own seat cost 10% of the adult fare

Availability

The cheapest fare is currently available from late January….

….and is available on multiple dates in February….

….. and March….

….but availability drops in April.

The fare is readily available once the Easter vacations are over…

….and it hangs around through to the end of the booking period towards the end of 2019:

Important Details

Unlike most of the fares I write about this one isn’t all plain sailing….you have to be very careful which flights you select if you want to minimise your travel time.

As I mentioned in the first paragraph, this fare requires a minimum of a single night layover in Lisbon (in one direction) and, if you don’t choose your flights carefully, it’s easy to select a fare which keeps you in Lisbon for quite a while:

This is great if you’d like some time to explore Portugal’s capital but not ideal if all you want to do is to get to Florida as quickly as possible.

For those who want to spend as little time traveling as possible there are some good flights available….

….but you have to make sure you tighten up your “travel time” parameters in whatever search facility you use.

I found these fares using the ITA Matrix Search facility and these are the parameters I would use if I wanted to limit my travel time:

You should change the “maxdur” command to however long you’re prepared to take to travel and, obviously, you’ll need to change the “length of stay” parameter to the length of trip you’d like to take.

Booking Flights

Google flights will help you out in a lot of cases….

….but you may well be better off navigating straight to the TAP website or, if you’re having trouble making the fare appear for the dates you’ve selected, you should try an OTA like Orbitz and use the multi-city function to tailor the search to your selected flights.

Where To Credit The Flights

TAP Portugal is a member of the Star Alliance so there’s a wide choice of loyalty programs to which its flights can be credited….but you need to be careful – you get a lot more credit with some programs than you do with others.

To give yourself all the information you need to make the best decision I suggest using the Wheretocredit tool and, just to give you an idea of the kind of options open to you, here are a few examples of what some of the loyalty programs will offer you.

  • Aeroplan – 200% of distance flown
  • Emirates Skywards – 150% of distance flown
  • Miles & More – 200% of distance flown
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer – 150% of distance flown
  • United MileagePlus – 125% of distance flown

Crediting these business class flights to one of the programs offering miles at a rate of 200% of the distance flown would see you earn almost 23,000 miles (excluding any elite bonuses) – that’s why I would probably credit to Aeroplan or Singapore Airlines (but those are personal choices).

Bottom Line

Not only is this a very nice fare but, if you’re careful to select the right flights and you’re traveling from March onwards, you can fly in TAP’s new A330-900 aircraft complete with new Business Class cabin on the transatlantic sectors.

Don’t forget that oneworld also has some very good Europe – Miami Business Class fares on offer right now so, if you can’t find what you’re looking for with TAP, perhaps oneworld can help you out.
