Example Rates

As soon as I saw this promotion highlighted by Head For Points I headed over to the Hyatt homepage to see what sort of rates I could find at properties that I suspect quite a few readers may like to visit. For each of the properties below, I searched for a 30-night stay and this is what I found:

Hyatt Regency Barcelona

30 Nights in October – $141/night + taxes = $143.55/night in total.

Quick Thoughts

It’s hard to argue with rates of $128 – $142 per night for a stay at a great central London property during the summer months, or $125/night to stay in a very nice hotel in Paris after the traditional tourist season is over but while the weather is still very nice.

I’m not sure that I’d pay $220/night for the Park Hyatt Abu Dhabi, but that isn’t a reflection on the property (which I love), rather it’s a reflection on the fact that I think I’d get bored in the UAE after a week and I’d be itching to move on after two.

It’s interesting to note the terms and conditions of this promotion state that World of Hyatt members get “standard in-hotel benefits” on stays booked using this promotion, so I wonder what the chances are of a WoH Globalist member getting an upgrade to a suite for the full duration of their stay? At a guess, I’d say that the chances are pretty slim but I’d be disappointed in any property that didn’t at least offer a good room upgrade.

Granted, this promotion is almost certainly only going to be of interest to a very limited number of people (how many of us can actually take 29+ days off work in one go?) but that doesn’t make it any less compelling. I genuinely cannot believe how cheap the London properties are and the idea of being able to live in comfort, 15 minutes walk from the Arc de Triomphe in the heart of Paris for $125/night on a short-term basis is nothing short of amazing.

If I didn’t have commitments that come higher in my list of priorities than a fun 30-night stay at a great Hyatt property, I’d seriously be considering some of these deals.

Bottom Line

Hyatt is currently offering excellent long stay rates at 125 of its properties in Europe, the Middle East, and India and while a stay of at least 29 nights may not be practical for a lot of readers, it’s hard not to be tempted by some of the rates on offer.

  1. With restaurants and other businesses expected only to offer limited service through to 2022, this isn’t as good a deal as it sounds. I don’t think I’d like to stay in some hotel operated by a skeleton crew, restaurants and amenities closed, to go out and find nearby businesses/shops also closed and/or curfews in place.
I think these promotions are in place in an effort to reel in folks who think the pandemic will end sometime in 2021 and restrictions/lockdowns/quarantines/limits on movement will be lifted. The question is how can it end? Those vaccinated can still carry/spread the virus; many people will never be vaccinated; and so far, more than one year in, the unstoppable virus has only been detected in 1.4% of the global population.
Governments have yet to admit: COVID going to be as prevalent as herpes simplex 1 (cold sore virus) eventually.

  2. I think doing a month of Europe in the Fall would be a lovely idea. At that point most people will be vaccinated and things should be a good deal closer to normal.
