Emirates has announced that it has completed its 2 year, $11m renovation of its Business Class lounge at Dubai Airport’s Concourse B and, if the pictures are anything to go by, it was worth the wait.

The revamped lounge is almost 10,000 square feet in area and can hold up to 1,500 passengers (a 40% increase on the old facility).

The children’s play area size has doubled and the on-site spa has been completely remodelled and offers hair, beauty and therapy treatments…although there’s no mention of prices in the press release.

As well as the spa the airline has renovated the shower facilities, installed designated quiet areas (fantastic!) and modernised the business facilities.

Here’s what the airline has had to say about its new lounge:

Emirates’ premium customers can now look forward to an enhanced lounge experience with three new distinct concept areas within the Emirates Business Class Lounge. The latest food and beverage concepts cater to diverse tastes and include a barista experience in partnership with Costa Coffee, a Health hub with Voss water featuring healthier options, and an exclusive Moët & Chandon champagne lounge.

Emirates is pretty happy with the arrangement it has with Moët Hennessy which allows it to be the first airline to serve “four of Moët & Chandon’s finest champagnes in one place” –  Moët Impérial, Moët Rosé Impérial, Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage and Moët Nectar Impérial.

To complement each champagne, chefs from Emirates flight catering and the in-house lounge teams collaborated with Moët & Chandon, to create a unique selection of canapés – from sweet to savoury flavours. The canapé menus are changed monthly and include selections such as smoked salmon wrapped in nori with wasabi mayonnaise to complement the Moët & Chandon Grand Vintage 2006 and passion fruit and jasmine tea macaroons to be paired with Moët Nectar Impérial.

The canapés on offer include:

  • Veal bacon gougere
  • Pea and mint soup
  • Cold lentils soup
  • Goat cheese and Emmental gougere
  • Smoked salmon wrapped in Nori, wasabi mayonnaise
  • Lime and avocado soup
  • Pear & blue cheese crostini, caramelized walnut
  • Sliced smoked duck on sushi rice & hoisin sauce
  • Asparagus & leeks tartelette
  • Cauliflower Pannacotta and teriyaki sauce
  • Beef bresaola honey roast fig & pumpernickel bread
  • Chicken with spice tomato and mango

Guests can enjoy their drinks at the chic bar featuring a golden wave design adorned with 2,400 intricate gold leaves applied individually by hand.

The Moët & Chandon lounge is just one of 8 locations in the lounge that, Emirates says, offer “gourmet cuisine prepared by on-site chefs and a complimentary full bar service, which includes premium wine, spirits and champagne.

All the food and beverage items on offer in the new Emirates Business Class lounge are complimentary for First & Business Class passengers as well as for Emirates Platinum, Gold & Silver elites.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a concession in an airport lounge before but that’s what it looks like Emirates is offering with its Costa Coffee area…..

…where, we’re told, customers can “enjoy complimentary handcrafted beverages prepared by Costa Coffee baristas as well as a fresh range of pastries, provided round the clock

Last week we heard Qantas talking about the healthy options it has introduced to its new Business Class lounge in Brisbane and it looks as if Emirates is following suit and possibly going a step further.

For the health conscious traveller, Emirates has introduced the Health hub in partnership with Voss water. With an increasing demand for health, well-being and more nutritious meals, Emirates is the first airline to have a dedicated health hub within its lounge.

The new station allows travellers to rehydrate and recharge before their flights with a selection of fruit and water infusions. It also features a healthy menu of gourmet sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Healthier beverages such as a selection of juices and smoothies are also available.

Bottom Line

We’ve only got pictures and the press release to go by for now but the offering looks great.

I’m not a big fan of over-the-top opulence so I’m pleased to see that Emirates appears to have restricted the gold trim it seems to love so much to the Moët bar – the rest of the lounge looks sleek, modern and practical…and I like that.

Dubai is an incredibly busy airport so it’s good to see Emirates creating a space big enough to hold 1,500 passengers….I just hope to never be in the lounge if it reaches capacity!

If anyone is passing through DXB in the next few days please stop by the lounge and report back on what you find – is it as good as it looks?
