Earlier today I wrote about Emirates scheduling A380 service between Dubai and Hamburg from October this year and, while researching that article, something else jumped out at me – the Emirates 777-300ER that’s scheduled to fly the second daily flight between Dubai and Hamburg only has 6 seats in the First Class cabin.

The only Emirates 777’s I know with 6 seats in the First Class cabin are those fitted with the new First Class suites and, as far as I can remember, I haven’t seen a mention of these aircraft being deployed to Hamburg (I’m sure someone will correct me if I’m wrong).

Looking through the schedules it looks as if Emirates is swapping out an older 777 aircraft for a reconfigured 777-300ER on 1 August 2018 as, from that point on, the First Class cabin shows a 6-seat layout rather than the more standard 8-seat layout we’re used to.

This is the First Class cabin where travelers have floor-to-ceiling sliding doors, a bed with a “zero gravity” position designed by NASA and central suites with virtual windows so no traveler misses out on the views – it’s quite an incredible (if possibly over the top) product.

The reconfigured 777-300ER aircraft also come with a new Business Class cabin with true lie flat beds, touchscreen controls for the seats and a personal mini-bar.

As you can see from the images the new Business Class cabin still comes with a highly disappointing 2-3-2 layout meaning that at least half the cabin doesn’t have direct access to the aisle and at least 3 people in every row will have someone clambering over them if they wish to get out of their seats.

Still, as behind the times as this Business Class cabin is it obviously offers a considerably better way to travel than the Economy Class cabin and, as I mentioned earlier, if you’re flying this route and want a significantly better Business Class product you’ll have the option to fly in the Emirates A380 from October.
