American Express is back with another set of offers which should offer an easy path to a lot of Membership Rewards Points for anyone considering booking one or more stays at MGM properties in the US (primarily Las Vegas).

Essentially there are two MGM offers that AMEX cardholders are being targeted for and each offer can be found in the two usual formats that AMEX offers come in – a cashback reward and a Membership Rewards Points reward.

AMEX MGM Offer 1 – Spend $500+ & Get 10,000 MRP

Per AMEX:

Get 10,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to spend $500+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with select MGM Resorts Destinations in Las Vegas from 10/1/2019 to 1/5/2020.

As I value Membership Rewards Points at 1.5 cents each, this deal is essentially offering me a rebate of $150 and that’s why I prefer it to the version of this offer that allows me to earn cashback:

The key terms and conditions of this offer are as follows:

  • Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards that are enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program at the time of purchase are eligible.
  • Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels.
  • Offer valid at Bellagio®, ARIA®, Vdara®, MGM Grand® Las Vegas, The Signature at MGM Grand®, Mandalay Bay®, Delano® Las Vegas, Park MGM®, NoMad® Las Vegas, and The Mirage® in the US.
  • Reservations must be made directly through MGM Resorts online at mlife.com, by phone, or via mobile app.
  • Excludes all other MGM Resorts destinations.
  • Not valid for Bellagio Shanghai, Four Seasons rooms and residences, and the Aria Residential Program.
  • Excludes BillDirect transactions.
  • Not valid on air and hotel packages and gift card purchases.
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.

The full terms and conditions can be found on the offer in your targeted American Express online account.

AMEX MGM Offer 2 – Spend $250+ & Get 5,000 MRP

Per AMEX:

Get 5,000 additional Membership Rewards points one-time by using your enrolled Card to spend $250+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with select MGM Resorts Destinations from 10/1/2019 to 1/5/2020.

Sadly this offer will not stack with offer #1 as the properties at which it’s valid are different (see the important terms and conditions below)…but this is still a very good deal.

Once again there’s a matching offer where a cash alternative can be earned…

…but once again I would prefer to earn the Membership Rewards Points (which I value at $75) rather than the cashback.

The key terms and conditions of this offer are as follows:

  • Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards that are enrolled in the Membership Rewards® program at the time of purchase are eligible.
  • Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels.
  • Offer valid at New York-New York®, Luxor®, Excalibur®, Beau Rivage®, Gold Strike®, Borgata®, MGM National Harbor® and MGM Springfield® in the US.
  • Reservations must be made directly through MGM Resorts online at mlife.com, by phone, or via mobile app.
  • Excludes all other MGM Resorts destinations.
  • Excludes Four Seasons rooms and residences.
  • Not valid for BillDirect transactions or air and hotel packages. Excludes gift card purchases.
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.

Thoughts

With 15,000 Membership rewards in play here it may well be worth considering the participating MGM properties for your next Las Vegas trip even if it means having to swallow some rather unpalatable resort fees.

I’ve been targeted for this offer on my Platinum Card, my AMEX EveryDay card and my Blue Business Plus card but it’s times like this where I wish that there was an American Express Membership Rewards card that offers bonus points for spending made directly with hotels.

As it is I’ll probably use my Platinum Card (1 point/dollar for hotel spending) if I try to trigger one or both of these offers as my Blue Business Plus Card (2 points/dollar for all spending) was only targeted for the cashback deal and I’d much rather earn the points than get cashback.

Bottom Line

As always, if you’ve been targeted for one or both of these offers don’t use it/them as an excuse to book a trip that you weren’t going to book anyway – that’s not a particularly prudent approach to take.

However, if you were already planning a Las Vegas trip that will end before 5 January 2020 then these offers are well worth keeping in mind as you shop around for the best hotel deals.

Don’t forget that room charges will count toward the spending requirements that these offers set so you don’t have to book an expensive room to make sure you make the most of these deals –  just make sure you’re diligent about charging as many of your on-property expenses to your room as you can and the rest should take care of itself.

Are any readers planning to use either (or both) of these AMEX offers?
