Earn Up To 120,000 Points With Radisson Rewards This Quarter (Award Nights Count)

We’ve recently seen what IHG has to offer for 1Q 2019, Hilton has had its 1Q promotion running for a couple of weeks and now we have a new promotion from Radisson Rewards…so it’s just Marriott and Hyatt that are sitting on the sidelines.

Radisson Rewards 1Q 2019 Promotion

• Guests must register before check-out of the Eligible Stay to count for the Promotion (link)
• Promotion is valid on Eligible Stays and Night(s) consumed from January 15, 2019 through March 31, 2019 at all Radisson Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson, Radisson RED, Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson hotels worldwide.
• An “Eligible Stay” is a booking of at least one night reserved at an Eligible Rate and booked through an eligible source, as defined in the Radisson Rewards Terms and Conditions.
• Both the check-in and check-out dates of the Eligible Stay must take place during the Promotion Period.
• To be eligible for the Promotion, you must:
  • (i) Be a Radisson Rewards member;
  • (ii) Register for the Promotion; and
  • (iii) Provide your Radisson Rewards member number when reservation is made, at check-in or prior to check-out of your Eligible Stay.
• Eligible Members will earn bonus points based on the number of nights booked and consumed at Participating Properties during the Promotion Period, not to exceed 120,000 bonus points
• Stays paid for by using Points or Points + Cash are eligible for the Promotion.
• Stays booked prior to but are consumed during the promotional period are also eligible.

Here’s how the promotion is structured:

• Stay 1 Night: Earn 1,000 Bonus Points
• Stay 1 additional Night: Earn 2,000 additional Bonus Points (totalling 3,000 Bonus Points)
• Stay 3 additional Nights: Earn 7,000 additional Bonus Points (totalling 10,000 Bonus Points)
• Stay 5 additional Nights: Earn 40,000 additional Bonus Points (totalling 50,000 Bonus Points)
• Stay 10 additional Nights: Earn 70,000 additional Bonus Points (totalling 120,000 Bonus Points)

Radisson says that all bonus points earned from this promotion will be posted alongside the standard earnings from a stay so, if for some reason the bonus points don’t show up on your account, make sure you chase Radisson up asap.

Thoughts

The rules of this promotion are actually pretty generous because, not only are existing reservations eligible for the promotion, award bookings and points & cash bookings are eligible too – we don’t see that in the T&Cs too often.

To earn the full 120,000 points a Radisson Rewards member would need to stay at Radisson properties for 20 nights between now and 31 March and that’s going to be tough for anyone who isn’t a road warrior.

I value Radisson Rewards points at around 0.4 cents each so 120,000 points is equivalent to a $480 rebate….which is pretty good if you’re traveling for work and someone else is picking up the bill.

More realistically (for most people) will be the target of 10 nights at Radisson properties which will earn 50,000 bonus points (an effective rebate of $200).

$20/night isn’t a bad rebate but it’s probably better to view the bonus as a night at a 50,000 point/night property (the tier one from the top).

There’s good news and bad news here.

The good news is that a lot of Radisson properties are actually pretty cheap (in comparison to other big chains) so earning the 50,000 points doesn’t have to break the bank.

The bad news is that there’s a reason why a lot of Radisson properties are so cheap and that’s because quite a few of them aren’t particularly good….at least not if you’re looking to stay in the US.

US guests may be able to earn the bonus points relatively cheaply but they may struggle to find a nice property at which to spend them.

Outside the US it will probably be more expensive to earn the bonus points but there’s more choice of properties at which to spend the points and, on the whole, the properties are of a better standard.

The fact that award nights are eligible for this promotion adds a little interest and, at the lower end of the scale, can help make some Radisson stays very cheap indeed.

Category 1 Radisson properties cost just 9,000 points per night so, for an outlay of 90,000 points, you would spend 10 nights at Radisson properties and be eligible for 50,000 bonus points.

In this instance you would have effectively spent just 4,000 points/night (~$16/night) for your stays.

That’s a fantastic deal if you need to make those stays in the first place (and if the hotel is an acceptable standard).

Bottom Line

If you travel for work this could be quite an easy way to pick up a stack of bonus points on your travels and, if you can hit the 20-night mark, the bonus is probably worth having….but for a lot of people this may not be a promotion to aim for.

If you pay for your own stays and you have a choice of where to stay I’m not convinced that the bonuses on offer here are worth the effort (if you’re US-based) or worth the expense (if you’re based outside of the US)….although the fact that reward nights are eligible may help a few people out.

Of course if you’re a Radisson loyalist anyway and were planning a number of stays already then this is just a nice bonus that you probably weren’t expecting.
