Golf isn’t exactly one of the cheaper sports to play and I know a lot of people who donate a significant portion of their income to indulge their passion so it’s going to be a bonus for some that you can now earn United Miles in four different golfing ways.

United has introduced MileagePlus Golf and, by using the dedicated website or the soon to be launched app, MileagePlus members can now earn miles for course bookings, equipment, merchandise, technology and instruction.

United has teamed up with four specific partners to make MileagePlus Golf possible:

Golf Direct Now

This is an online golf retailer at which MileagePlus members can earn 4 miles/dollar on all equipment and merchandise and 6 miles/dollar on closeout and sale merchandise.

GolfNow

GolfNow is an online booking service which I’ve used in the past and found very useful for getting great deals on tee times. MileagePlus members will earn 4 miles/dollar for all eligible bookings.

GolfLogix

This is a GPS-based app which offers detailed maps of 35,000 golf courses around the world….which is useful if, like me, you often find yourself nowhere near the fairway you’re meant to be or have no idea how to read the green 🙂

The technology offers….

  • Interactive course maps
  • Putt Breaks green reading technology
  • 35,000 Courses
  • GPS to the front, back, & center of greens
  • Distance to any point on fairway & green
  • Activity calorie counter
  • Daily pin positions
  • GPS distances to all layups and hazards
  • Patented club tracking

MileagePlus members will earn 250 miles for taking out an annual membership and 50 bonus miles for downloading the free app.

This is a “complete golf training curriculum” that offers MileagePlus members 1,000 miles when they purchase the annual training program.

Bottom Line

If you love your golf this could be a very easy way to boost your MileagePlus balance. Personally I can’t see the training curriculum being all that attractive with just a 1,000 miles on offer but the 4 miles/dollar you can now earn at GolfNow will be very useful.

One word of caution: Before purchasing anything through the retailers offering MileagePlus miles make sure you do your research and check that you’re not paying a premium just to earn the miles – if whatever you’re buying is cheaper elsewhere it’s unlikely the miles on offer at MileagePlus Golf will be worth enough to make up the difference.
