If you took part in the recent Iberia promotion there’s a good chance you’re not in any great hurry to collect any more Avios (assuming that Iberia actually pays up!) but, for everyone else, there’s an easy way to earn a few more Avios through July 8th.

The British Airways shopping portal (the Avios eStore) is offering double Avios on purchases through July 8th and this sees retailers like Apple, Macy’s and Saks offering 6 Avios per dollar while you can earn as many as 20 Avios/dollar at retailers like New Balance and eBags (the UK version of the store has a similar promotion running too).

British Airways offers double Avios promotions or a reasonably frequent basis and they’re always worth checking out because of the breadth of selection in the promotion.

Often when you hear of double/triple miles promotions at online shopping portals you’ll head over there only to find out that the good deals are mainly on offer at very niche retailers (usually florists and magazine sellers)….and that not very useful. This isn’t the case with the BA shopping portal.

While it may be true to say that some of the best deals are found at more specialist retailers….

  • Williams-Sonoma – 12 Avios/Dollar
  • BlackCountry – 16 Avios/Dollar
  • Colombia – 16 Avios/Dollar
  • Jimmy Choo – 16 Avios/Dollar
  • Selfridges US – 16 Avios/Dollar
  • PedMeds – 20 Avios/Dollar
  • ShoeMall.com – 24 Avios/Dollar

…you’ll find good deals elsewhere too.

I took a quick look around the latest double Avios promotion and found some good earning rates at stores/retailers a lot of people will probably use from week to week:

  • Target – 4 Avios/Dollar
  • Home Depot – 6 Avios/Dollar
  • Macy’s – 6 Avios/Dollar
  • Wallgreens – 8 Avios/Dollar
  • Sam’s Club – 8 Avios/Dollar
  • Sephora – 10 Avios/Dollar
  • Sears – 12 Avios/Dollar
  • iTunes 14 Avios/Dollar

Be sure to read any restrictions that the individual retailers may have added to the promotion (Apple often excludes certain purchases for example) and be aware that a lot of retailers specifically exclude gift cards from Avios earning.

Bottom Line

Considering just how useful Avios can be for short-haul redemptions it’s always a good idea to hold a reasonable balance for times when cash fares are unreasonably expensive.

Using offers like the British Airways double Avios promotion is a good way to boost your Avios balance without spending money you wouldn’t otherwise spend.
