I’m a big fan of airline shopping portals because they can be a great way to boost your miles and points balances without spending any more that you would anyway (as long as you’re disciplined!).

By clicking through any one of a myriad of shopping portals (most major airlines have them as do some of the more popular credit card issuers) users can earn bonus points/miles on everyday spend without having to leave the comfort of their own homes.

Right now a number of airline shopping portals are offering bonus miles/points for clicking through their sites and shopping with Apple and some of the bonuses are very attractive.

The deals on offer are running today (30 January 2019) only and there are some terms and conditions you should be aware of – here are the terms from the AAdvantage eShopping portal:

Please note these terms & conditions: Rewards are issued by this site, not Apple. The new Mac mini is not eligible until further notice. Additional products not eligible are: gift cards, gift wrap, Bose products, Apple Developer Programs, and shipping. Apple sells and ships products to end user customers only; you may not purchase for resale. Eligible only to a customer for up to five (5) units per eligible product, except iPhone, in which case only two (2) units within a thirty-day (30-day) period are eligible. EPP purchases are not eligible. Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents.

Make sure you read these carefully when working out if/what you should buy and be aware that it’s possible for the terms and conditions to vary from portal to portal even though most are operated by the same company.

The offers:

  • Alaska Airlines – 6 miles/dollar (link)
  • American Airlines – 4 miles/dollar (link)
  • British Airways – 3 Avios/dollar (link)
  • Delta – 2 miles/dollar (link)
  • Southwest – 3 points/dollar (link)
  • United Airlines – 6 miles/dollar (link)

All the portals appear to be running a bonus today…just some portals are offering considerably better bonuses than others.

Bottom Line

Please don’t be tempted to buy something just because there’s an elevated bonus today – spending money that you weren’t planning to spend is not something anyone should be doing.

However, if you were already thinking about making a purchase from Apple then today may be the day to pull the trigger.

The last elevated bonus on Apple purchases that I noticed excluded a number of the newer iPhones and at least one of the MacBooks too – this promotion seems to be a lot less restrictive.

Anyone able to make the most of this one-day promotion?

  1. My only tip is to read all the terms and conditions including exclusions and take a screenshot as the terms are constantly changing along with the advertisement they use to promote the campaign. A lot of time they exclude the latest models, or certain models and sometimes they include generic clauses that they can exclude. I have had 3 purchases where they did not get credited and I had to wait months for them to be properly applied.
