Hyatt has announced a new promotion, in conjunction with American Airlines, which sees it reprising an offer we last saw back in October of last year. Starting on 5 July, members of the American Airlines AAdvantage program will be able to earn a bonus of 1,000 AAdvantage miles per qualifying stay at over 150 participating Hyatt hotels in cities across the U.S.

The Promotion

  • Register by 31 August 2022 (here)
  • Stay between 5 July and 5 September 2022
  • The minimum stay (to earn the bonus miles) is 2 nights
  • Earn 1,000 bonus American Airlines AAdvantage miles at participating properties in the United States.
  • Participating properties are properties operating under one of Hyatt’s brands in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Honolulu, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington, D.C. (link to participating properties)
  • Offer not valid at SLH properties
  • Award bookings, as well as paid bookings, will qualify for this promotion.

Note: There is no cap on the number of AAdvantage Miles that can be earned in this promotion

Key Terms

  • You must be a World of Hyatt member, an AAdvantage member, and register for the offer between June 13, 2022 and August 31, 2022 to participate.
  • Offer valid for eligible stays completed between July 5, 2022 and September 5, 2022 (“Offer Period”) at participating Hyatt properties.
  • Guest must enter a valid AAdvantage membership number at time of registration and pay an Eligible Rate. Members will receive 1,000 AAdvantage bonus miles per eligible stay during the Offer Period.
  • For purposes of this promotion, consecutive nights at the same hotel constitute one stay (even if you check out and check back in).
  • Only the room occupied by the member will count toward this offer, regardless of the number of rooms paid under the same account number.
  • Member must choose either World of Hyatt Base Points or AAdvantage® miles as their base earning. If a member selects to earn World of Hyatt Base Points at check-in, member will receive 1,000 AAdvantage bonus miles per stay in addition to World of Hyatt Base Points earned. If member chooses to earn AAdvantage miles at check-in, they will receive the ongoing benefit of 500 AAdvantage base miles in additional to the 1,000 AAdvantage bonus miles per stay as part of the offer during the Offer Period.
  • Your account will be credited 3-4 weeks after travel with AAdvantage miles, which are subject to the terms and conditions of American Airlines.

Full terms and conditions can be found on the promotion page.

Quick Thoughts

In some ways, this promotion is better than the one we saw last year and in some ways, it’s slightly more restricted.

In October 2021, there was no 2-night minimum stay requirement, and stays at properties in Dallas, Denver, Nashville, and Phoenix would have earned guests the bonus miles.

However, last October’s promotion was targeted (this one is not) and guests staying at Hyatt properties in Boston, San Diego, and Honolulu were excluded last time out while this time they get to participate.

You win some, you lose some.

As far as earnings go…

AAdvantage Gold, Platinum, Platinum Pro, and Executive Platinum members already earn one AAdvantage mile for every eligible dollar spent on qualifying Hyatt stays so this promotion just adds to that.

As I value American Airlines Miles at 1.25 cents each, this promotion is effectively offering me an added rebate of $12.50 per stay for all eligible bookings.

On its own, that probably isn’t going to be enough to make me leap into action and make some previously unplanned bookings or to change any existing bookings, and I suspect a lot of readers will feel the same way. Nevertheless, for anyone who was already planning a Hyatt stay at one of the participating properties, the extra AAdvantage miles that are now on offer should represent a nice bonus on top of all the other points and miles that they’ll earn from their stay(s).

Bottom Line

If you’ve linked your World of Hyatt and American Airlines AAdvantage accounts you will be able to earn 1,000 bonus AAdvantage Miles on every stay made at participating World of Hyatt properties through 5 September 2022. While this clearly isn’t as exciting a promotion as we’ve seen Hyatt launch in the not to distance past, this promotion is still effectively offering free miles for those of us who were planning on making a few stays anyway, and free miles are always very welcome.
