Marriott Moments is the section of Marriott Rewards best known for allowing members to redeem their points for various experiences around the world but I recently discovered that it also allows you to earn Marriott points as well.

The first page you’re offered when you access the Marriott Moments website is usually the “Member Exclusives” page….

…and this is where you’ll find all the usual ways of spending your Marriott points.

You can enjoy haute cuisine in Napa…

….get tickets to the baseball….

…or perhaps book concert tickets to sold out shows….

…but they all cost points and that’s not what this post is about.

If you use the top navigation panel on the Marriott Moments page and select “Tours & Activities”….

…you arrive at a section I never knew existed – a section where you earn points for things you’d probably book when on vacation anyway.

The page asks you to input the destination of your choice….

…and, once you enter it, you’re offered a variety of tours and excursions at that location which you can book while earning Marriott points.

Here’s some of what you’re offered if you select Los Angeles as your destination:

You earn 10 Marriott Points for every dollar spent and, as I value Marriott points at around 0.6 cents each, that works out to a 6% rebate.

The prices on show in the image above are just indicative prices (so don’t assume the tour prices are fixed – they’re not) but when I compared what Marriott Moments is charging to other sites (like Viator) and to the what the attractions themselves are charging I found little to no difference.

Clearly you should always do your own research and make sure that you can’t book the tour/excursion/experience cheaper elsewhere but, if my limited sample size is indicative of general pricing on the Marriott Moments site, you could essentially pick up free Marriott points when booking things to do on your trips (if you were going to book the activity anyway).

Bottom Line

This could be a very useful way to earn some extra Marriott points without spending any cash you weren’t planning on spending in the first place. Also, if you use a credit card like the Citi Prestige or the Citi ThankYou Premier card which earn 2 points/dollar on entertainment spending you can boost your loyalty point balances even further.

Did anyone else know about this? I only found the page by accident so I have no idea how long this has been around.
