While British Airways has quite an impressive European route network it's lounge network is less than stellar, and there are quite a few popular destinations around Europe where British Airways and oneworld don't offer elites or premium cabin passengers a lounge to relax in before a flight.
The American Airlines Admirals Club in Rio De Janeiro is in Terminal 2 of the city’s Galeão International Airport (GIG). The lounge was refurbished back in 2016 as part of a wider (and still ongoing) Admirals Club renovation project and here I take a look inside and see what the club has to offer.
There are three Plaza Premium Lounges in Rio de Janeiro’s international airport Terminal 2 but only one is dedicated to international departures and that’s the lounge that’s being reviewed here. The other two Plaza Premium lounges cater for domestic departures and for arrivals respectively and all three of the Plaza Premium lounges are part of the Priority Pass network.
The GOL Premium Lounge in Rio De Janeiro is the lounge you’ll be sent to when flying Iberia and British Airways out of Rio but it’s also the lounge for Delta, Air France and KLM (amongst others) as well as being a Priority Pass lounge as well. This makes it one of the airport’s more important lounges and one which a lot of TFM readers will probably use when traveling through Rio.
Up until now Priority Pass hasn't had a presence at Ft. Lauderdale International Airport but this has just changed with the addition of Kafe Kalik to the lounge program's portfolio.
Star Alliance opened up its latest branded lounge at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Friday giving travelers passing through another option of somewhere to spend some time before their next flight.
Back in October 2018 Cathay Pacific opened up a trial in which Marco Polo Club members flying with Cathay Pacific (in any cabin) could pay to enter three of the Business Class lounges in its worldwide network. This trial is still in progress and was set to end on 31 March this year but, according to recent reports, Cathay Pacific has just announced and extension to the trial and added more lounges to it.
Over the past few years Priority Pass has been adding airport restaurants to its portfolio in locations where it has found it challenging to get access to more lounge space and, at these restaurants, Priority Pass members can use their lounge visit entitlement to receive a cash amount towards any food or drinks they purchase.
American Airlines says that it's preparing for "a big summer" in Charlotte and by that it means that it plans to add services to/from its hub and that it has just reopened a renovated Charlotte Admirals Club at Concourse B.
Back in December Air France unveiled its refurbished dining facility at is lounge in New York JFK Terminal one and it promised more upgrades to come in February this year. True to its word Air France has just opened its new beauty treatment centre (I'm going to call it a spa from now on) at its JFK T1 lounge in conjunction with skincare specialist la Prairie.
