Here’s The Latest American Airlines Mileage Sale…..And Why You Should Avoid It

American Airlines is back with a new offer in its near-monthly attempt to sell miles to the public. In this promotion the airline is offering a bonus of up to 50% on miles purchases through 31 January 2019 and, while that may appear appealing to some, I'm going to show why this is a truly woeful deal for most.

Singapore Airlines Devalues KrisFlyer Award Charts & Makes Other Changes Too

Starting in January 2019 Singapore Airlines is introducing a number of changes to its KrisFlyer Program. Mostly the changes can only be categorised as negative (bad news if you hold a significant number of KrisFlyer Miles) but there are a couple of small pieces of good news too so it's not all gloom and doom this early in 2019.

ENDING TOMORROW: Buy Alaska Miles At The Best Rate We See [Targeted]

Alaska's Mileage Plan program has been running an excellent mileage sale (for some) since last month but time has nearly run out to make the most of it. The sale, which offers targeted Mileage Plan members the chance to buy miles with a 40% - 50% bonus, ends tomorrow so, if you haven't done so already, it's time to decide if you need any more miles.

87% Of The Way To Oneworld Sapphire Status For $1,370

Once upon a time (in a galaxy far far away) I was a big fan of mileage runs, status runs and any other kind of run that would improve my trips. Nowadays I'm a little happier flying to destinations I want to visit or on aircraft I'd like to try out and my days of flying around just to earn status or miles are behind me. That's why it's a little surprising that an earlier blog post of mine gave me an idea.

The Incredible American Airlines Award That Came & Went

American Airlines has recently started publishing some discounted Economy Class awards which it's calling "web specials". This is almost certainly as a result of Delta's ever more frequent flash sales but, up until now, American's web specials have only been offered on select domestic routes. Yesterday that changed....briefly.

United Caves – Basic Economy Fares Now Qualify For Elite Credits

Let's be honest and open about this - Basic Economy fares are a rip-off. Airlines would love for us all to blindly believe that Basic Economy fares are just super-cheap, no-frills fares brought in to compete with the low-cost carriers...but they're nothing of the sort. Basic Economy fares are no cheaper than the cheapest fares that were around before Basic Economy was even a thing - they just come with considerably fewer benefits.  Remember that the next time you read about an airline CEO telling us all how Basic Economy is great news for the budget traveler.

Qatar Airways Has A New Route And It Has Potential To Be GREAT For...

Qatar Airways has today announced another new European route which it plans to start operating from Summer 2019 and it could mean a very nice haul of Tier Points if you're starting your travels in the UK. Ordinarily, an announcement of a new Qatar Airways route is just good news - it's another route on which to earn and burn AAdvantage Miles or Avios - but the route announced today could signify a great opportunity for UK flyers looking to earn a lot of tier points in a single trip.

Barely a day goes by when one of the major airlines doesn't have a points sale in progress so we're living in an age where "standard" prices are only really placeholders while the airlines get ready for the next discounted offering. DEAL: Earn Up To 24 United Miles Per Dollar At Accor Hotels (Fairmont, Sofitel,...

On Friday I wrote about a promotion that Accor is running in which members of its Le Club AccorHotels loyalty program can earn 4x the normal number of United MileagePlus miles for stays booked and consumed by 28 February 2018. The promotion requires registration but is very simple and is predicated on the fact that, for a limited time, Le Club AccorHotels points will convert to United MileagePlus Miles at a ratio of 1:2 (the usual conversion rate is 2:1). As I showed on Friday, this can be a very good deal if you're a MileagePlus Miles collector but it now looks as if Accor has made the promotion significantly better.

Why You Should Separate Airline Status From The Airline Miles You Like To Earn

In "the good old days" airline miles were a way for airlines to reward their frequent flyers for their loyalty and they were reasonably easy to use for free flights around the world. Nowadays things are different. Airline miles are becoming trickier to use as airlines reduce the number of awards they make available and, more importantly, they're a lot harder to earn just from flying around.

[PREDICTION] American Airlines Will Soon Sell Miles From 1.77 Cents Each

One of the unexpected bonuses of American Airlines not having any real creativity is that the airline can be very predictable. LifeMiles May Now Be An Amex Transfer Partner But I Really Don’t Care

It wasn't a conscious decision not to write about the Amex/LifeMiles news at the time so the omission is almost certainly a result of the fact that the announcement wasn't actually something I cared about....and there's a very good reason why I didn't (and still don't) care.

American Airlines Simply Doesn’t Care About AAdvantage Or Its Members

There was a time when the American Airlines AAdvantage program was the clear leader in the airline loyalty sector and when the airline saw it as a genuine asset to its business. Having Airline Status Can Still Be Important….And A Money Saver

As airlines continue to strip away the benefits that come with having status we're hearing more and more people say that they're giving up on the idea of airline loyalty. For those who only fly once or twice a year the idea of always booking the cheapest flights or the most convenient flights seems like the logical thing to do but it's only in more recent times that we've started seeing miles & points fans coming around to that point of view. This gradual change is understandable and entirely logical. When you take a look at what airline status looked like just 5 or 6 years ago and compare it to what that same status looks like now you'll generally find that earning status has got harder while the benefits have been diluted and mileage earnings have been decimated.

At the beginning of every month Flying Blue (the loyalty program for Air France/KLM) releases discounted mileage awards for Economy, Premium Economy and Business Class travel on Air France and KLM. These "Promo Awards" are advertised as offering "up to 50% off" award travel but, while some awards may be discounted by 50%, nowadays we're more used to seeing discounts of around 25% on the awards most would like to book.

British Airways has launched a promotion in which it's offering Executive Club members a 50% bonus when they purchase Avios by 8 May 2018. You Can Now Buy United Miles At 2.21 Cents Each….But Should You?

United's last points sale ended at the end of March so, unsurprisingly, the airline is back with another attempt at tempting travelers into buying its currency. The last points sale offered up miles at around 2.25 cents each while this time around the cost/mile is slightly less...but should you buy?

Here’s How To Status Match To Star Alliance Gold

United Airlines offers a very useful but poorly publicised route for travelers to reach the dizzy heights of Star Alliance Gold status if they already hold status with an airline belonging to another alliance (SkyTeam or oneworld). While top-tier Star Alliance status may not be as beneficial as its oneworld equivalent, it's certainly worth having....especially if you have flights on Star Alliance carriers planned.

Six American Airlines AAdvantage Business Class Sweet Spots

As regular readers will know I've recently made the move away from the AAdvantage program and am currently crediting my flights to the British Airways Executive Club. The BAEC makes earning top-tier status easier for me but I miss earning AAdvantage miles as the AAdvantage program offers a number of Business Class sweet spots that can be very useful and which represent a great use of miles.

Singapore Airlines Improves Its HighFlyer Program – Partners Added

Singapore Airlines launched its HighFlyer program for SMEs back in the summer of 2017 with the aim of giving small businesses an incentive to book with the airline without taking away mileage earning from the people actually doing the flying. The program has only been valid on Singapore Airlines operated flights up until now but, as of 2 April 2018, two of Singapore Airlines' Star Alliance partners have been added.

ENDING SOON: Buy Alaska Miles For 2.11 Cents Each

The current Alaska mileage sale has been running since mid-February and ends on Monday 9 April so you have this weekend to decide if you have an account that needs topping up. This mileage sale is offering bonuses of up to 40% but, as this is a targeted promotion, Not all accounts will have been targeted for a bonus that high (bonuses appear to range between 20% and 40%) but, based on anecdotal evidence, the 40% bonus offer is reasonably widespread.

United MileagePlus Flash Sale – Buy Miles For 2.25 Cents Each

United's MileagePlus program is running a flash sale for anyone looking to buy some miles with the best price per mile sitting around 2.25 cents. As with all "flash sales" this one isn't going to be around for long so if an account needs topping up don't wait too long.

American Airlines Is Selling Miles Again And This Time They’re Worth A Closer Look

American Airlines is back again with one of its very frequent miles sales. The past few sales have been poor (to say the least) but, while I usually advise against buying AAdvantage Miles, this time around I can definitely see where buying miles in this promotion may work for some.

Qatar Airway Introduces Oryx Kids Club – A New Loyalty Program For Kids

Qatar Airways' loyalty/rewards program is called "Privilege Club" but, to be a member, a traveler has to be at least 12 years of age. Now, however, in what appears to be an attempt to fill the age gap leading up to when a child can join the Privilege Club, Qatar Airways has introduced a new loyalty program for kids - the Oryx Kids Club

March 2018 Flying Blue Promo Awards Are Available To Book (Good Deal To Dubai)

The March 2018 Flying Blue Promo awards have now been published and "disappointing" is probably the best way to sum up what we're being offered this time around....although if you're looking to fly to Dubai you may be quite pleased.

On top of this there's a chance to win 1,000,000 miles in a sweepstake plus $9,800 to help cover any taxes incurred should you be the lucky winner.

Are You Missing Bonus United Miles From A Choice Privileges Promotion?

Back in November there were a couple of fantastic Choice Privileges points sales that, thanks to a number of stackable promotions, effectively allowed you to buy United Miles from as little as 1.13 cents each. That's an incredibly low rate at which to buy United miles but, if you participated in these sales, have you checked that you have actually received all the miles due to you?

Alaska Mileage Plan Back With Another 40% Bonus Promotion

The last Alaska mileage sale may have offered a bonus of up to 40% but it was so highly targeted that a lot of people weren't even offered a bonus at all. Now Alaska Mileage Plan is back with another sale which, if targeted, is aimed at a lot more people. Both the Mileage Plan accounts I control are being offered bonuses of between 20% and 40% depending on how may miles are being purchased (there's a chance some may have been targeted for a bonus of up to 50%).

Earn 10,000 Bonus AAdvantage Miles On Select European Routes (US Departures Only)

American Airlines has announced a new promotion to help advertise three of its new European routes that we'll be seeing in 2018. There are a couple of limitation to the promotion (as you'll see in the details below) but, if you're looking for a vacation to Europe this year this could be a bonus.

Qatar Airways Makes Negative Changes To Upgraded Tickets

I've always considered Qatar Airways to be the better of the 3 big Middle Eastern carriers - less "bling" than Emirates, less  penny-pinching than Etihad and offering a better Business Class product than both. But now the airline has gone and done something that cheapens the brand and, frankly, doesn't make much sense.

LAST DAY: Buy Alaska Miles With A 40% Bonus [Targeted]

Alaska Mileage Plan miles are one of the last airline currencies that I genuinely consider buying every time a decent sale comes around and that's down to how much value I know I can get out of them. Alaska miles can be very useful (and a big money saver) if you're thinking of booking Business Class or First Class awards on airlines like Cathay Pacific, Korean Air and even LAN and, importantly, you don't have to be US-based to make the most of these miles (I discus this more in the post linked here)

American Airlines Is Back With Another Miles Sale (Through 16 Feb)

Back on 9 January I wrote about American Airlines’ first points sale of 2018 and I concluded that, at 2.1 cents/mile, I was finding it hard to recommend a purchase. I also said that the way American Airlines is going “there’s every chance there will be another [promotion] along soon after this one ends” and “if history keeps repeating itself the next promotion should offer miles at around 2.02 cents each”. Well….guess what? Almost the moment the last American Airlines points sale ended a new one was launched and…you guessed it….the points are on sale for ~2.02 cents each :)

Qantas Offering Double Status Credits For Travel Into 2019!

My Qantas frequent flyer account is registered in the US and sees no activity whatsoever. Historically I've credited all my oneworld flights to American Airlines AAdvantage and now I'm crediting them to the British Airways Executive Club.....but Qantas clearly wants me to given them a try.
