Alaska Mileage Plan

Alaska Airlines and American Airlines have issued a joint statement in which they have announced a new "West Coast International Alliance" under which Alaska's West Coast network will connect up to (and feed) American's long-haul network, which will see Alaska Airlines becoming a member of the oneworld alliance in 2021 and which will see American Airlines launching a new route to Asia and a new route out of Alaska's hub in Seattle.

Alaska is once again offering a bonus to anyone willing to buy its currency in its latest mileage sale (is it me or are these becoming more frequent?) and with Alaska Miles being one of the more valuable airline currencies around it's always worth seeing if it's worth buying miles when there's an offer on.

Alaska Mileage Plan is an incredibly popular loyalty program in the miles and points world because it's one of the few loyalty programs left that still rewards travelers for the distance they fly, its award booking rules are comparatively flyer-friendly, and it allows members to book economical premium cabin awards on a number of very useful airlines.

Singapore Airlines has been an Alaska Mileage Plan partner since September 2017 but although it has been possible to earn Alaska Miles on Singapore Airlines for the past two years it's only now that Alaska Miles can be used to book Singapore Airlines awards.

Sometimes I wonder if American Airlines genuinely can't help itself. On the same day that the airline was finally able to announce a genuine improvement to its AAdvantage earnings charts (just a few days after the airline was left embarrassed by the loss of a key oneworld partner), it shoots itself in the foot by promptly announcing the end of yet another arrangement with a valued partner airline.

Alaska MileagePlan has launched a flash sale on its currency in which it's offering bonuses of up to 40% on purchases of 10,000+ miles through 22 September 2019. All the accounts I control have a maximum bonus of 40% showing and I haven't seen, heard or read of anyone seeing a different maximum bonus in their account so it's probably safe to assume that this isn't a targeted promotion.

Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan program has launched a flash sale which is running through 30 June and is offering miles with a 30% discount. Not be confused with a sale offering a 30% bonus (which isn't a great deal), the price on offer in this sale is one of the best we see Alaska Airlines publish.

Alaska Airlines added Aer Lingus as a partner airline at the end of March but it's taken the airline until today to publish award charts for Aer Lingus and to get around to adding the Irish flag carrier to its award search engine. Still, we can finally now see just how good or bad the new Alaska/Aer Lingus partnership will be for the miles & points community.

Alaska Airlines has been selling its miles at its best ever rate since the middle of April and time is rapidly running out if you plan to make the most of this deal. Through Sunday 19 May you can buy Alaska miles with a 50% bonus and, after that, I suspect it will be a good few months before we see a bonus that high offered to everyone.
