British Airways’ Business Class offering was given an enormous boost when the airline announced the introduction of its new Club Suite but with the new suite limited to the airline’s new Airbus A350 aircraft and a number of refitted 777s, it’s a product that’s not available on the majority of BA’s routes. From later this year, however, British Airways is scheduled to offer its new Business Class cabin to/from the Maldives.

Routes Online has reported that British Airways is set to restart non-stop flights between London and the Maldives from 16 October 2020. With BA’s Gatwick base still very much shuttered, the airline will operate its flights to the Maldives out of London Heathrow and, by 5 December, this is what the schedule will look like:

BA061 LHR 18:15 – 09:40+1 day MLE (Wed, Fri & Sun)*
BA061 LHR 21:20 – 12:45+1 MLE (Sat)**

BA060 MLE 11:25 – 17:55 LHR (Mon)
BA060 MLE 11:45 – 18:10 LHR (Thu & Sat)***
BA060 MLE 14:45 – 21:10 LHR (Sun)

*Wednesday flight added from 28 October
**Added on 5 December
***Thursday flight added from 29 October
****Added on 6 December

From the moment the route restarts on 16 October until the final flights on the Winter Season on 27/28 March 2021, the 777 aircraft operating on this route are scheduled to be of the refitted variety which, according to ExpertFlyer, come with an 8-seat First Class cabin and an incredible 76-seat Business Class cabin with all-aisle-access Club Suite seating.

To say that this is an upgrade for this route would be an understatement. The unrefurbished 777 that has historically operated on this route is home to a Business Class cabin that has been dubbed “a flying dormitory” thanks to the cramped feel the cabin gives off and the claustrophobic seating.

I truly abhor the standard British Airways 777s and I regularly do what I can to avoid them (something which is a lot harder to do now that the 747s have been put out to pasture) so to see a Club Suite aircraft scheduled to fly to/from the Maldives should bring a big smile to the face of anyone considering booking this route.

Bottom Line

If the current schedules are to be believed, the “misery” is over for British Airways Business Class travelers flying to/from the Maldives. From 16 October the aircraft operating this route will offer the new British Airways Club suite on all flights and this is set to remain the case throughout the coming winter season.
