Last week I pointed out that there are still plenty of Excellent Business Class Fares for Europe-USA travel in Summer 2016 but it’s also worth pointing out that there are other times of the year when you can still get some truly fantastic fares for British Airways Business Class flights from Oslo to various US cities.
Outside of July and August the best dates for British Airways Business Class fares to the US are:
- 19 March – 3 April 2016
- 19 November – 26 November 2016
- 24 December – 31 December 2016
Clearly these aren’t wide date ranges but, if you can somehow organise a trip to fall into those dates, you can pick up a few great bargains.
The best fares appear to originate in Oslo but there are some good fares to be had out of Stockholm (ARN), Copenhagen (CPH) and Dublin (DUB) as well. All flights route through London Heathrow.
Oslo – Los Angeles From $1,595
For me this is the best deal out there, especially if you’re looking to earn British Airways tier points or if you’re looking to credit the flights to American Airlines for elite status qualification.
This is a trip of 12,412 miles and will earn the following:
British Airways: 18,496 Avios & 360 Tier Points
American Airlines: 15,515 AAdvantage Miles (minimum – elites will earn more) & 18,618 EQM
Oslo – San Francisco From $1,862
This is a trip of 12,235 miles and will earn the following:
British Airways: 18,244 Avios & 360 Tier Points
American Airlines: 15,515 AAdvantage Miles (minimum – elites will earn more) & 18,618 EQM
Oslo – New York From $1,562
This is a trip of 8,403 miles and will earn the following:
British Airways: 10,454 Avios & 360 Tier Points
American Airlines: 10,504 AAdvantage Miles (minimum – elites will earn more) & 12,605 EQM
Oslo – Chicago From $1,824
This is a trip of 9,406 miles and will earn the following:
British Airways: 11,940 Avios & 360 Tier Points
American Airlines: 11,758 AAdvantage Miles (minimum – elites will earn more) & 14,109 EQM
Oslo – Boston From $1,230
Be careful with these flights as a lot of them have very long layovers – but there are good prices available for trips of a reasonable length.
This is a trip of 8,030 miles and will earn the following:
British Airways: 9,882 Avios & 360 Tier Points
American Airlines: 10,038 AAdvantage Miles (minimum – elites will earn more) & 12.045 EQM
Searching For The Fares
As usual I found these fares using the ITA Matrix search engine (help for new users can be found here).
These are the parameters I used (in this case for a December trip to Chicago):
Other Info
The mileage earning for those crediting flights to American Airlines will, in reality, be a bit better than what I’ve shown under the various cities. I’ve shown the base mileage earning but, not only will American Airlines Elites earn more AAdvantage miles depending on their status, American is also offering bonus miles for premium cabin travel for a large part of 2016 (click to enlarge):
In case you’re thinking that you’ll get stuck with some horrendous layovers with fares this cheap that’s not necessarily true at all. The good fares to Boston are tricky to find but, to cities like LA, the flights are great.
Bottom Line
Because of the restrictive nature of the dates these fares won’t suit everyone but, hopefully, it’s a reminder of the kind of fares that you can find if you hunt around a bit.
Premium cabin travel doesn’t have to be horrifically expensive nor does it have to be purchased with a loyalty currency (Avios) if you’re to get a good deal – you can easily pay more for Economy Class fares to some of these cities so these Business Class fares really are very good indeed – especially the fare to Los Angeles.
The cities I’ve highlighted above are by no means the only cities that to you’ll find good British Airways Business Class fares – that’s just a taster. Have a play around with ITA Matrix (or whatever your preferred search tool is) and take a look what you can find – Let me know if you nag any spectacular bargains 🙂
