A few days ago, Marriott Bonvoy launched and new, small, promotion, for stays taken in Thailand and while the promotion itself will probably have its uses (if you’re planning a visit to Thailand and are considering booking a Marriott property), it was a small section of wording within the promotion that caught my eye.
Here’s the deal and what I found odd.
The deal
Book and stay at any of 60 participating Bonvoy properties in Thailand by 30 September 2026 and earn 2,000 bonus points per night with a maximum of 6,000 bonus points per stay.

Quick thoughts
The two things to keep in mind here (outside of the promotion dates) are these:
Firstly, make sure you use promo code S2499 when booking or you won’t earn the bonus points. If you enter the code correctly and you’ve chosen a participating property, you should see the promotion noted when you check the room rates.
Secondly, be aware that the rules say that all consecutive nights spent with Marriott will count as one stay, so if you try split a 6 night trip across two 3-night bookings to maximise the number of points you can earn from that trip, Marriott will view those two bookings as one 6-night stay and you’ll only earn 6,000 bonus points (not the 12,000 you were probably hoping for).
Also, clearly this isn’t a promotion that should be swaying your decision on where to stay. We value Bonvoy points at 0.6 cents each, so, effectively, Marriott is offering us a rebate of $12 per night up to a maximum of $36. Lucrative this is not.
This should be viewed as a nice little extra bonus if you happen to be planning a stay with Marriott in Thailand anyway and nothing more.
This is odd
The wording describing the offer is approximately the same on the offer page and in the email that Marriott sent out and this is the section of text that caught my eye.
From the offer page: “… earn 2,000 bonus points per night, up to a maximum of 6,000 points per stay—helping you reach Elite status faster than ever.”
From the email: ” … receive 2,000 bonus points per night—up to 6,000 points per stay—and accelerate your journey to Elite status.”
Now, unless I’ve missed something (sadly, that’s something always possible), there is no mechanism by which someone can earn Marriott elite status through the accumulation of Bonvoy points.
Elite status is based on elite night credits earned from the nights a Bonvoy member actually stays at Marriott properties and elite night credits earned through credit and debit cards, so why is this wording suggesting that I will “accelerate [my] journey to elite status” or “reach Elite status faster than ever” by booking this deal?
As far as I can tell there’s nothing in this deal that will help someone earn Bonvoy status any quicker than they would if they didn’t use the promo code or if they were staying anywhere else in the world.
Am I misreading something? What am I missing? Answers in the comments section please as this has me confused.
Bottom line
Marriott has launched a new offer for stays taken in Thailand by 30 September. It’s not lucrative, but it may be a nice bonus if you happen to be planning a Marriott stay in Thailand anyway.
The bit that has me confused is the suggestion that this deal will somehow accelerate a Bonvoy members path to elite status. I can’t see how that can be true, but perhaps I’m missing something.
