British Airways has launched a new sale for departures out of the UK and, a little surprisingly, there are some great value redemptions in both First Class and Business Class. The sale suns through to 21 May and includes most of BA’s short-haul and long-haul routes as well as the airlines holiday packages and car hire deals.

Below are some examples of the fares you can expect to find on long-haul routes in the latest British Airways sale but, as the list is far from exhaustive, you should check the sale page and the British Airways low fare finder tool for any specific routes you may be interested in.

  • Vancouver – from £1,899

The list above is very USA heavy but that’s only because that’s where most of the best deals are to be found. The fact that we’re being offered so may routes on which you can book First Class for under £2,000 is surprising and the fact that BA is offering First Class fares of under £1,800 roundtrip to at least 7 destinations (some of which are on the West Coast) is incredible.

Once again I seem to have picked out a lot of US destinations to illustrate the deals that are available…but that’s because roundtrip Business Class for under £1,400 (available to a number of US cities) is considerably better than roundtrip Business Class of over £2,100 which is what’s being charged on a lot of non-US routes.

The British Airways Sale – Short Haul Flights

Direct link to the sale page

Below are some examples of the fares you can expect to find on short-haul routes in the latest British Airways sale but, as with the long-haul routes I illustrated above, this list doesn’t show ALL the deals available – you’ll have to check the sale page or the British Airways low fare finder tool if a route you’re interested doesn’t appear below.

Prices are for one-way

  • Amsterdam – from £46
  • Athens – from £184*
  • Barcelona – from £69
  • Berlin – from £85
  • Budapest – from £130
  • Catania – from £130*
  • Dublin – from £38
  • Frankfurt – from £54
  • Geneva – from £36
  • Genoa – from £71
  • Helsinki – from £111*

  • Istanbul – from £133*
  • Kiev – from £136*
  • Lyon – from £86
  • Milan – from £51
  • Naples – from £94
  • Nice – from £56
  • Paphos – from £158*
  • Rome – from £78
  • St. Petersburg – from £123
  • Venice – from £75
  • Vienna – from £77

There are some very good deals amongst the fares I’ve listed above but I suspect it’s probably the fares marked with an asterisk (*) which will attract the most attention.

These are the routes on which British Airways awards 80 Tier Points one-way (160 Tier Points for roundtrip travel) and these routes offer a very economical way to boost your way to whatever elite status level you’re aiming for.

£222 for roundtrip travel to Helsinki is a very good deal indeed (£1.38/Tier Point) and a visit to the incredibly beautiful city of St. Petersburg for £246 roundtrip will see you earn Tier Points at £1.54 each….which is also very good going.

British Airways Holidays

Don’t forget that it’s quite often the case that BA offers even better deals when you pair a flight with a hotel (the package deal can sometimes come out cheaper than the flight-only deal) so make sure you check out the offers that British Airways Holidays has in this sale.

Also, for the next few days there’s an extra discount available for anyone booking BA Holiday deals:

Book a flight + hotel or flight + car holiday in our sale and you can make the following additional savings:

    • £100 extra discount with a minimum spend of £2,500 per booking
    • £50 extra discount with a minimum spend of £1,250 per booking

These savings are available on top of the existing sale prices.

This offer ends 7 May

Bottom Line

There are some excellent deals available in this sale and, unusually, it’s some of the First Class deals which stand out the most.

In a number of cases the roundtrip First Class fare costs approximately £400 more than the roundtrip Business Class fare to the same city and, when you’re flying to destinations as far away as San Francisco, San Jose, Miami and Vancouver, that extra £400 could be money well spent.

On the short-haul routes some of the fares look fantastic but let’s not forget the product that British Airways actually offers in short-haul Business Class – it’s not the best!

Personally speaking it’s the 80/160 Tier Point routes that look the most interesting here although, clearly, roundtrip fares like the £72 fare to Geneva or the £76 fare to Dublin also look pretty good when you consider they’ll bring in 80 Tier Points each.

Have I missed any great deals?
