While we haven’t really seen very many AMEX offers for airlines this year there certainly hasn’t been a shortage of offers to choose from if you’ve been looking to book a few hotel stays. With a number of older hotel offers still very much alive (check here, here and here), AMEX has now added a further three offers that may be of use.

Offer 1 – Fairmont & Sofitel

The full terms can be found alongside the offer in your American Express account (assuming you’ve been targeted for the offer)

Thoughts

The first thing that springs to mind is that this offer would work well with the 3x points offer Accor is running worldwide right now – make sure you register for that promo before you use this deal.

As is very common with AMEX offers, this rebate is only available for bookings made in the US, Canada and Mexico….and that’s a shame. Accor isn’t exactly a massive player in North America so the choice of properties in the offer isn’t huge…but there are still some very nice properties to choose from.

Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica

Be aware that some properties in the US (like the Fairmont Miramar in Santa Monica) like to add on resort fees and, sometimes, these fees aren’t automatically obvious when you’re making a booking (it’s also often not obvious what these fees actually get you!) – make sure you check what you’re being charged for before you book.

Offer 2 – Kimpton

Here’s the headline offer…

Get a one-time $60 statement credit by using your enrolled Card at Kimpton hotels from 7/1/2019 to 9/30/2019, to spend a minimum of $300+ USD on room rate and room charges.

…and here are the more important terms and conditions:

  • Must first add offer to Card and then use same Card to redeem.
  • Only U.S.-issued American Express® Cards are eligible.
  • Limit 1 enrolled Card per Card Member across all American Express offer channels.
  • Your enrollment of an eligible American Express Card for this offer extends only to that Card.
  • Offer valid for stays at any Kimpton hotel location globally. Reservations must be made online at kimptonhotels.com, by using the mobile app or by calling 1-800-KIMPTON (546-7866).
  • Excludes all other IHG® hotel brands.

  • Not valid for purchases at restaurants, kimptonstyle.com, or for IHG® Rewards Club points purchases.
  • Excludes gift card purchases.
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.
  • Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.
  • Qualifying purchase means a purchase at Kimpton hotels made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and is in an amount of at least $300 USD as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement.
  • Limit of 1 statement credit per Card Member.

The full terms can be found alongside the offer in your American Express account (assuming you’ve been targeted for the offer)

Thoughts

This is a nice and easy offer to use as it’s open to Kimpton properties worldwide..and that’s unusual when it comes to AMEX offers. We’re more used to seeing these kinds of offers limited to specific regions (usually North America).

$60 off $300 (or more) means that there’s a maximum rebate of 20% on offer here which isn’t a bad deal…just make sure you try to avoid the Kimpton properties that like to add on resort/destination fees to the final bill (this heinous practice is mostly limited to US properties).

Offer 3 – Grand Hyatt

Here’s the headline offer…

Get a one-time $60 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to make a single purchase of $300+ USD on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay at Grand Hyatt locations in the U.S., Mexico, and Bahamas from 7/1/19 to 9/30/19

…and here are the more important terms and conditions:

  • Enrollment limited.
  • Offer valid only at Grand Hyatt hotels in the US, Mexico, and the Bahamas.
  • Reservations must be made directly with Hyatt via Hyatt.com, the World of Hyatt mobile app, a Grand Hyatt hotel, or a Hyatt call center.

Offer not valid for purchases of gift cards, World of Hyatt Points, or Hyatt Gold Passport points. Excludes bookings made through MGM and via Hyatt Travel or Hyatt Vacations.
  • Qualifying purchase means a purchase at Grand Hyatt made during the offer period with your enrolled American Express Card and which is in an amount of at least $300 USD, as posted to your account, following conversion from a foreign currency, if applicable, in accordance with your Cardmember Agreement.
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.
  • Offer not valid for lodging stays that are paid for before the promotion start date or after the promotion end date.
  • Limit of 1 statement credit per Card Member.

The full terms can be found alongside the offer in your American Express account (assuming you’ve been targeted for the offer)

Thoughts

Be aware that the rebate on offer will only be triggered by bookings made in the US, Mexico and the Bahamas so don’t make the mistake of booking elsewhere if you expect to get $60 back.

Just as with the Kimpton and Sofitel offer, the maximum rebate on offer here is 20% but, considering how much most Grand Hyatts in the US cost, I suspect the actual percentage rebate achieved by most will be lower than this figure.

Still, if you were planning to book a say at a Grand Hyatt property anyway this is essentially free cash and may go some way to helping nullify any annual fee you may have paid for the card on which this offer was loaded.

Bottom Line

There are two keys to getting real value out of these offers:

  1. Don’t make any bookings that you weren’t planning to make anyway just because you’ve been targeted for one or more of these offers – that’s no way to make real savings.
  2. Make sure you read the rules of the offers carefully so you don’t accidentally void your chances of getting the rebate credited to your account.

Follow those two simple rules and you shouldn’t go too far wrong.
