Amex Offers: $200 Delta Credit, $100 Off At Ritz-Carlton & More

American Express Offers USA

TravelingForMiles.com may receive commission from card issuers. Some or all of the card offers that appear on TravelingForMiles.com are from advertisers and may impact how and where card products appear on the site. TravelingForMiles.com does not include all card companies or all available card offers.

Some links to products and travel providers on this website will earn Traveling For Miles a commission which helps contribute to the running of the site – I’m very grateful to anyone who uses these links but their use is entirely optional. The compensation does not impact how and where products appear on this site and does not impact reviews that are published.

One of the major benefits of holding American Express Cards is that the card issuer regularly has some pretty good offers for cardholders prepared to used their card(s) at select merchants. The merchants that offer these discounts cover a broad spectrum of the market so you’ll see offers from everyday retailers (like GAP, Macy’s & Bloomingdale’s), offers from more specialist vendors (like Adobe, Dropbox, Mont Blanc & Este Lauder) and, as well as a few restaurants that appear here and there, you also get offers from various travel providers. This is where things can get interesting.

In the last few days American Express has opened up a number of good offers that may be of interest to anyone thinking of taking a flight or booking a hotel in the next few weeks.

Delta – Spend $1,000 Or More & Get $200 Back

delta-airlines-amex-offer

Clearly this is a pretty decent offer for anyone who flys Delta anyway but the terms of the offer make it even more appealing than it appears – you don’t have to spend the $1,000 in one transaction.

Details

Get a one-time $200 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a total of $1000 or more on purchases made directly with Delta by 9/30/2016.

  • Purchases may be (but are not limited to):
    •  Flight reservations made via delta.com, phone, or at ticket counters,

    • Delta Sky Club™ membership or passes, pre-purchased or in-flight meal purchases
    • In-flight alcoholic beverages
    • Audio headsets, movies, shows and video games accessed via Delta’s seatback in-flight entertainment on Delta-operated flights
    • Delta Vacation® packages (but not other all-inclusive packages).
  • The following do not count as qualifying purchases and are excluded from the offer:
    • In-flight wireless internet access
    • Shows, games and movies accessed via a personal electronic device and associated services
    • Charitable contributions
    • SkyMiles Cruises

It’s at times like this that I wish Amex had a relationship with an airline I fly!

Put simply, if you register for this offer on the Amex website, you have between now and 30 September 2016 (2 months) to spend $1,000 directly with Delta on any of the items noted above – that should be pretty easy for a lot of readers.

Note: there’s no mention of gift cards not being included so that may be a way of extending this promotion until you actually need to book a Delta flight…..but I don’t know if this will work so you try it at your own risk.

Ritz-Carlton – Spend $500 Or More & Get $100 Back

ritz-carlton-amex-offer

Details

Get a 1X $100 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $500+ on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with The Ritz-Carlton from 8/1/16 to 11/30/16.

You get up until 30 November 2016 to pay for your room but that doesn’t mean that you have to stay by then. As long as the $500+ charge hits your Amex account before the cut-off date you’ll get the rebate so a pre-paid rate would probably be the best way to go if you don’t have an upcoming stay.

It’s not obvious if you need to spend $500+ in one transaction or if you can spread it out (not that it’s difficult to spend $500 at RC properties!) but I’d err on the side of caution.

Headline T&C’s (see Amex for full T&Cs)

  • Offer only valid at The Ritz-Carlton in the US/US territories.
  • Reservations must be made online at ritzcarlton.com, via the Ritz-Carlton App or by calling 800-542-8680.
  • Offer does not apply to Ritz-Carlton Luxury Vacation Packages, Ritz-Carlton Residences, Ritz-Carlton Destination Club properties and timeshare purchases.
  • Excludes gift card purchases (IMPORTANT)
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.
  • Offer not valid for stays that are paid for before or after the promotion start and end dates.

It’s a shame that the offer is restricted to Ritz-Carlton properties in the US but this still isn’t a bad offer. Make sure you note that gift card purchases are specifically excluded from this promotion.

Sheraton Hotels & Resorts – Spend $250 Or More & Get $50 Back

sheraton-amex-offer

Details

Get a 1X $50 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $250+ in a single purchase on room rate and room charges, when you pay for your stay with Sheraton Hotels & Resorts from 8/1/16 to 10/31/16.

Headline T&C’s (see Amex for full T&Cs)

  • Reservations must be made online at sheraton.com, via one of the SPG mobile apps or by calling 1-800-325-3535.
  • Offer only valid at Sheraton® Hotels & Resorts in the US & US territories.
  • Excludes all other Starwood brands.
  • Offer does not apply to the Sheraton Store and Sheraton Vacation Club resorts
  • Excludes vacation ownership purchases.
  • Offer only valid on room rate and room charges.
  • Offer not valid for stays that are paid for before or after the promotion start and end dates.

This is probably one of the more useful offers out there because you’re still getting a 20% discount (as you are in the two offers above) but the spend requirement is considerably lower and Sheraton is a brand at which a lot of people are probably already planning stays.

sheraton-laxSheraton LAX

Once again its unfortunate that the offer is only valid for Sheraton properties in the US (I could have done with this being available for an Asia trip I’m currently booking) but $50 off a $250 stay is still pretty good.

As the T&C specifically say that the offer is “only valid on room rate and room charges” I’d suggest that gift card purchases are excluded from this promotion.

parc-55-hilton-san-franciscoParc 55 by Hilton in San Francisco

Ok, so this offer isn’t exactly stellar and, in my case, is extra annoying because it wasn’t available on my Amex/Hilton credit card so I’d be forgoing Hilton HHonors points for Membership rewards…but it may be of use to someone.

Be sure to note that, with this offer, you’ll have to book and stay by 18 October 2016 as the T&Cs specifically exclude advance purchase rates and they exclude gift card purchases.

Morgans Hotel Group – Get 25% Off Your Stay

Mondrian West HollywoodThe Mondrian West Hollywood

The Morgans Hotel Group is a boutique group of hotels with a tiny but possibly interesting footprint. Based on the T&Cs it would appear that the following hotels qualify for this offer:

USA

  • Los Angeles – Mondrian Hotel
  • Miami Beach – Delano
  • New York – Hudson, Royalton & Morgans Hotels
  • San Francisco – Clift

Abroad

  • London – Mondrian, St Martins Lane & The Sanderson
  • Istanbul – Karakoy Hotel

The Mondrian Los Angeles looks like a very interesting proposition because, in my opinion, it’s located in one of the very best places to stay if you’re visiting LA – diagonally across the road from the Andaz West Hollywood on the Sunset Strip.

The fact that stays have to be booked by the end of this month and made by 7 September isn’t exactly ideal but, if you’re visiting one of the cities with a Morgan’s property and you have booked a hotel yet then this could be of interest.
